“For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity.” (William Penn)
In a romantic
relationship, you may hear this cliché used about when the couple met each
other for the first time: “time stood still.” 2 Peter3:8 (NLV) says: Dear friends, remember this one thing, with the Lord one day is as 1,000
years, and 1,000 years are as one day.[i] In Heaven, you’ll never have to worry about losing track
of time as you do on Earth (when doing a favorite, enjoyable hobby) in an excellent
conversation with a close friend. Since time doesn’t exist, you can talk with
this individual for all eternity if you wish.
(This is great news for all those chatty people here on Earth.)
With the non-existence of time in a perfect
body, you will stay suspended at the perfect age without all the ill effects of
getting older. Without the need for time, I believe clocks (and other time
devices will also be absent. With the absence of the decay found on planet
Earth, plants, flowers, and wildlife will never die, and will always stay fresh
and beautiful.
Revelation 22:2 (TPT) tells us what our food
source will be there (in measurements and language humans beings can
understand): The River was flowing in the middle of
the street of the city, and on either side of the river was the Tree of
Life, with its twelve kinds of ripe fruit
according to each month of the
year. The leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing] of
the nations. I believe time will have no effect on this fruit.
Like the fairytale of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” the fruit will always
be just right without it going rotten (too ripe) or being unripe (too hard).
With perfect
bodies no longer affected by time, illnesses, and disease, there will be no
need to sleep to regain our energy. Revelation 21:23 (VOICE) says this: And in the city, there is
no need for the sun to light the
day or moon the night because
the resplendent glory of the Lord provides the city with warm, beautiful light and the
Lamb illumines every corner of
the new Jerusalem. I believe the closest earthly example we have of this happening
is in Alaska. In the northernmost part of the state, the sun does not set
for more than two and a half months (from May 10 to August 2). [ii]
Lee Strobel gave this
wise insight: “Believing
the right things about Jesus isn't enough. You're not adopted as God's child
until you confess and turn away from your wrongdoing and receive the freely
offered gift of forgiveness and eternal life that Jesus purchased with his
death on the cross. Until you do that, you'll always be on the outside looking
in.” Making
sure of your reservation in Heaven is more important than making advanced
funeral arrangements. You will be arriving in Heaven (or Hell) before your
funeral and the burial that follows. Be ready.
