“Children are apt to live up to what you believe of them.” (Lady Bird Johnson)
Imperfect parents come in both good and bad kinds. They can be a lot like
your favorite piece of fruit. Some fruit
is beautiful in color and shape, and tastes delicious. Of course, there is the
fruit that is bruised, moldy, and doesn’t look too appetizing. Even if you were
to cut away all the bad spots on the fruit, there wouldn’t be enough decent
look fruit to eat.
Unlike the variety that comes in parenting, God is the perfect parent.
He’s present when He needs to be, and His unconditional love for is not
something you ever need to question (at all). There are some songs that seem like they are expressing exactly what the
heavenly Father must be thinking. I believe this is the case with Ray Boltz’s song “Always Be a
Child.”
I was there when you drew the breath of life
And I could hear your voice
The first time that you cried
And though you couldn't see me
I was very near
And there's something now
That I want you to hear
Chorus
You will always be a child in my eyes
And when you need some love
My arms are open wide
And even when you're growing old
I hope you realize
You will always be a child in my eyes
And I was there the first time that you prayed
And I heard all the promises you made
And when you fell before me
Crying father I have sinned
I picked you up
And held you close again
Chorus (Twice)
You will always be a child in my eyes
Unlike human beings (or parents)
who can change with age, Jesus is timeless and changeless. You don’t have to
wonder if He will change His mind on something because He won’t. He’s both
reliable and dependable. Hebrews 13:8 (ERV) says: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. You can trust
Him with your life.
