A beautiful woman who rejects good sense is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout. (Proverbs 11:22, Holman Christian Standard Bible)
Have you ever met someone that was so good-looking that in comparison you felt ugly? As soon as the individual opened their mouth and began talking, the first thought to come to mind was “what an idiot.” Proverbs 11:22 likens a beautiful person with a lack of sense to a fat, dirty pig with a gold ring in its nose. You would like to think the gold ring might improve the status of the pig. Instead the gold ring doesn’t seem quite as desireable or valuable when it’s in the nose of the pig. This verse does not mention how to get the gold ring out of the pig’s snout, and how angry that creature is going get as someone tries to take it out. Yuck, and good luck!
There have been various times in my life where I thought I was as
handsome as I could ever get. Soon after these moments
I would get extremely angry (over anything) with someone, and say lots of words
I didn’t mean that were illogical (and not based in reality). In those moments
I was amazed how the fury in my face changed me from an attractive nice guy to
an ugly ogre that was speaking much unsupported nonsense. Has this ever happened to you?
Proverbs 13:30 (ERV) says: Grace and beauty can fool you, but a woman who respects the Lord should be praised. If there is a time in your life when much of what makes you
unique is gone (like your mind or looks), will other people recognize the
persistence of your Christian testimony? Only time will reveal the truth.
