“The future
belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” (Eleanor Roosevelt)
Having
goals to aspire to in the future is one way to give your life true meaning.
Whether that goal involves something like losing weight, going back to school
to get a college degree, or going to therapy to improve in anger management;
most people can achieve any goal they put their mind to mastering.
What
happens when a person realizes that they either need to redirect or bury a
dream (or goal) to better aid in the reality of their world? Examples of
burying your dream could involve not going into a career in dancing if you have
to rhythm or avoiding that career as a famous artist if you have no ability to
paint or draw. I believe reality (and your own natural talent) is important in
striving for your goals.
An
example of redirecting your dream might include the following: You want to be
a public motivational speaker one day. You dislike talking to large groups of
people, but writing is something you enjoy doing immensely. The intimate
platform of blogging might be a perfect way for you to accomplish that goal.
Remember,
that your goals for your life should always align with God’s desires for you.
Hearing his voice clearly can be accomplished through prayer, Bible study, and
community with other believers. It is most important to listen (in your heart)
to what God is asking you to do (though you can seek wise counsel to help make
that decision. Psalm 118:8 (ERV) says: “It is better to trust in the LORD than to trust in people.” Don’t
let others tell you what your life goals should be (even though they might mean
well). Trust in God for the perfect decision all the time.
