“Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous.” (Albert Einstein)

Are you familiar with the term “God Wink?” It’s an occurrence so out of the ordinary that for it to happen at all divine intervention was required. It can also be the Heavenly Father’s acknowledgement that your life is headed in the right direction.

Though I’ve had many God Winks in my life, the one that I remember the most involves meeting and marrying the woman I have been a husband to for the last twenty-four years.

In December of 1992, I had only been with my employer  in Columbus, OH for about two years. I was a Customer Service Representative. One morning one of our contractors from a wood treating plant in the state of Washington called for assistance in getting her company paid in a timely manner.

Over the several months, I assisted Bobbi McFarlen in getting her company's money from us in the normal range of a month from her company's four months timespan, which was causing payroll issues. In the summer of 1993, I was on a singles retreat in North Carolina. Bobbi called our customer service line to thank us all for the help we’d given her company. She was being laid off, and the company would be closing in the near future.

Before I was aware of a love connection with Bobbi, the women I worked with already knew.  Thank God for their female insight. Bobbi was encouraged to call back the following week when I'd be back to speak with me.

At this time two important things were happening with Bobbi. The paper with our number on it was a constant reminder of me as it kept showing up around her apartment. A girlfriend of hers (who was also doing this) suggested she put a pair of men’s pants at the end of her bed. Bobbi's prayers would signify to her Heavenly Father that she was ready to meet her Mr. Right. Those pants needed to be filled with a real man. (Did she have any idea what she was asking for?)

When Bobbi called the following week, we realized there was no longer a work connection, and decided to continue our conversation privately daily long distance from our apartments. (This was prior to all the communication technology used today.) For thirteen weeks, we courted over the phone (with at least one all-nighter) until we met each other for the first time in the Columbus International Airport in September of 1993.

We got engaged during Bobbi’s trip to Columbus, OH, and married on November 13, 1993. Both of us agree that if we had dated any other way than this, chances are our marriage and daughter (three years later) may never have occurred. At that point in my life, God and I had differing opinions on all the qualities I thought my Miss Right needed. We are amazed by all of our family similarities.

How many times have you been caught off guard. You have to take a step back, and exclaim, “How could that person have known? Who told them about my life?” “I was just talking about them yesterday, and here they are.” When there is a need for us to do something. This is when a God Wink will happen. Here are signs that will help you to better identify when those God Winks occur in your life:

It’s a God Wink when…

1.      You get a similar message more than two times

“Whether we like it or not, God intends to give us what we need, not what we now think we want.”  (C.S. Lewis)

2.   Something happens clearly out of the blue.

Sometimes I just look up, smile and say, "I know that was you God. Thanks." (emilysquotes.com)

3.   People and circumstances are destined

“I thank God for protecting me from what I thought I wanted and blessed me with what I didn't know I needed.” (Anonymous)

4.     You need to pay attention, and act on it

God has perfect timing; never early, never late. It takes a little patience and faith, but it's worth the wait.“God has perfect timing: never early, never late. It takes a little patience and a whole lot of faith, but it’s worth the wait.” (GodVine.com)

“If you totaled up the number of times you were just about to step off a curb, but we’re distracted by something when you found yourself almost striding in front of a fast-moving car, when a small voice deep within(just in the nick of time) stopped from taking that step. I suspect you’d be amazed. Sometimes called instinct, I call it the small, still voice of God.” [i]

The only pictorial images we exchanged with each other before our first meeting at the Columbus International Airport. In this early author photo of me, please note the title of the second book under my elbow: Onesimus: Rebel and Saint by Lance Webb. This book was a purposeful reminder of my personality.
