“If you could go back in time to a younger version of yourself,
(or speak to a newborn baby) what advice would you give?”* My favorite time
travel trilogy is the Back to the Future series starring Michael J. Fox. I’ve always
enjoyed the topic of time travel because of the possibility of a second chance
to erase or re-do an unpleasant situation, or be part of some historical event.
My love for this topic convinced me to
write (and compile together) All for One:
the Towns of Ohio Complete Trilogy in 2011(PublishAmerica/America Star
Books).
Part three of this book fictionalizes
me (in the character of teenager, Danny Philman) into an amazing trip to an
important place in the distant past that involves inhabiting someone else’s
body. That’s all I’m sharing. This is a wonderful book that will educate,
entertain, and inspire you. (Would you expect any less from me?)
My advice to the above question would
come in the form of Mark 12:33 (MSG). “[Love] others as well as you love yourself.” It is important to come to
acceptance with who you are for complete freedom, or to be moving in the
direction of personal change (where it is possible).
Crime would be drastically reduced if
people all over the world did just one thing. Empathy for others could change
us all for the best.
I asked my wife, Bobbi, what advice
she would have given a younger, heavier version of herself. With the success
she’s had with her bariatric surgery in the summer of 2014, she would have told
that woman (who was in so much physical pain for so long) that she should have
not taken four years to come to terms with this life-changing treatment. In
this situation, sooner would have been better.
Though I tried for years to convince
Bobbi this was the right weight loss choice to make, she had to come to terms
with the surgery complications she’d heard of as well as friends that had
regained lots of weight after bariatric surgery. These bad results were not to
be her destiny.
As of this post, Bobbi has lost 145
pounds. (It’s been hard work for her to adjust to her new lifestyle and body.) The
emotional and physical transformation is breathtaking. I am so proud of her.
She is a complete success in my mind.
Only you (and God) can change you.
Shed the past no matter how painful or hard that can be. Literally, the future version
of who you can be is at stake. What else can one ask for?
