The Cure

“Pedicures are the cure for everything. That’s why they’re called pedi-CURES.” (TheSalonBussiness.com)

Did you know that the average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day? That totals up to about 115,000 miles over a person’s lifetime. That’s why pedicures are a great way (for both men and women) to provide basic care for their feet.  A pedicure is a therapeutic treatment for your feet that removes dead skin, softens hard skin, and shapes and treats your toenails. Pedicures have many great advantages. Here are just a few:

Decreases chances of infections-Clipping, cutting and cleaning of the toe nails prevents them from growing inward and causing infection. The elimination of dirt and bacteria from your feet will also help prevent nail diseases disorders (fungi) and foot odors. It is also important to keep toenails healthy because they protect toes from trauma. A regular pedicure can also support chiropody if you suffer from foot problems (such as: corns, calluses, and cracked soles). This may prevent you from needing further treatment.

Early detection of problems-Receiving a regular pedicure can help the pedicurist detect early signs of corns, bunions and fungal infections. These conditions are easier to treat when they are identified in the earlier stages.

Exfoliates the feet-Exfoliation (or removal of dead skin cells) prevents the cells from accumulating and causing bunions or corns, which can be uncomfortable and painful. The removal of the dead skin on your feet (especially on the heels) encourages new cell growth which creates smoother and more attractive feet.

Preserves skin’s moisture-A pedicure includes soaks in warm water and massages with oils and lotions that help preserve the moisture and integrity of your feet. Moisturized feet are less likely to get blisters, crakes, or other foot problems. It is also important to keep your cuticles moisturized to prevent nails from growing out with ridges or split ends which can cause the nails to lift out of the nail beds.

Promotes circulation-The most enjoyable part of the salon pedicure is the massage. Massaging helps promotes circulation and relieves tension in the calves and feet. Increase in blood circulation can reduce pain and help distribute heat throughout your body.

Relaxing for the feet-Feet get little care compared to other parts of your body such as your hands and face. Healthy feet are vital to your overall health. Whether you go to a salon (or you do your own pedicure) make sure to get one at least once a month so your feet stay healthy, and in good condition. Pedicures can also soothe and relax you when combined with other treatments. A pedicure can also help your posture. You naturally walk more comfortably on cared-for feet.

There are many different kinds of pedicures. Below are fourteen of them that your salon of choice may offer:

Chocolate-Chocolate works like an antioxidant and helps to moisturize feet. At first, feet are soaked into warm chocolate. The aroma coming from chocolate will relax you. After soaking and washing off the chocolate, you scour your feet with scrubbers, which also have chocolate in their composition. Then the feet massage with aromatic oil and nail polishing at last.

Classic (Standard or Basic)- This is the most frequently applied feet maintenance procedure (for men). At first, you soak your feet in warm water until your skin becomes swollen. After soaking, dead skin and impurities are scrubbed off. The nails are clipped, formed and cuticles around the nails are removed.

Fish-It is an unusual way to treat your feet. Your feet are soaked into aquarium with little fishes. These fishes swarm your feet and scrub all impurities and dead skin from them. Do not worry because these fishes are not so big that would do any harm to you or inflict pain.

French-This is very popular pedicure procedure among women. The whole process is the same as in classic pedicure until it comes to nail polishing. At first, the nails are applied with transparent foundation polish. The tips of the nails are polished with white nail polish. It imitates the natural shape and structure of the nails.

Gel-This type of pedicure is dedicated for someone who wants to enjoy a nice pedicure and polish for a longer time. The whole process is the same as in classic pedicure until it comes to nail polishing. Nail polish is applied and then affected with ultraviolet (UV) rays. This polish can hold on your nails up to a month.

Hot Stones-This type of pedicure includes the classic pedicure procedure and other feet nourishing procedures. Both feet  get scrubbed and masked. After that, your feet are wrapped into warm towels. They are kept like this for several minutes. Then there is a relaxing feet massage with warm stones and aromatic oils. It helps to relieve pain in the legs and feet.

Ice Cream-During this sweet, unusual procedure, ice cream is used. Feet are soaked in warm water together with ice cream. After soaking, feet are also scrubbed with ice cream. You can choose the flavor and aroma you like best. The real meaning of this procedure is the therapeutic effect of cold.

Mini-Mini pedicure is a simplified version of the classic pedicure. During a mini pedicure, your feet cleaned, and nails are clipped and formed. This pedicure is dedicated for practical people, who want to save time, money, and want to efficiently have their feet taken care of.

Paraffin Bath-In case, the skin of your feet is dry and cracked, paraffin bath is just what you need. During the procedure, your feet are soaked into warm paraffin wax. Paraffin moisturizes, softens your feet and helps to open skin pores. This procedure is perfect for someone who wishes to have soft and younger looking feet.

Rose-At the beginning of the procedure, you cover your feet with rose petals and then soak them into warm water. When feet get soaked well, they are scrubbed with the same rose petals. After this point, everything is like in a Classic pedicure (nails clipping and formation, cream, polish, and maybe a massage).

Salt-During this pedicure, sea salt and small marbles are used. It helps to scrub off impurities and dead skin. Feet are soaked for at least for fifteen minutes in warm water with some salt. After that, scrub them with salt and little marbles.

Spa (Deluxe)-During a Spa pedicure, you will enjoy these pleasant sensations: feet soaking and scrubbing, classic pedicure and feet massage with nourishing and aromatherapy oils.

Sports-This pedicure is dedicated for the person who is doing active sports. Their feet are tired from constant training. During the procedure, feet are soaked in warm water and moisturized with skin cream. Then is a pleasant and relaxing feet massage, which helps to regain vitality to tired feet.

Waterless-During this pedicure, instead of water you use disinfectant spray. Sprayed feet are wrapped in warm towel and are left like this for some time. Wrapped feet soak in the spray. Even with low amount of liquid, they become swollen. After this, everything goes as in a classic pedicure. This kind of pedicure is usual in places where lack of water is an issue like Europe).
