“Sunday morning church service is not an enormous priority; spending time with other believers is.” (Donald Miller)
Growing up in a church
environment was an experience I won’t soon forget. Back then, I do recall from
the religious community as a whole that there were no excuses why the whole
family should not be at church on Sunday morning. That means if someone in the
family is scheduled to work on Sunday. You just tell the boss you can’t (and
hope you’re not fired). This mind rationale is not as prevalent today as it was
when I was growing up.
In the real world that doesn’t
work if you wish to remain employed. 1 Timothy 5:8 (VOICE) says: And listen, if someone is not providing for his own relatives and
especially his own household, then he is denying the faith and is worse off
than an unbeliever. If you have to work on Sunday to take care of
your family, God needs you to do that (for His children). If your faith does not consist of more than
just church attendance: I hate to tell you this. Your belief in God is
undesirable, and resembles weak, lukewarm coffee. YUCK!!!
How do you know that God
does not wish you to witness to a co-worker on a work Sunday all about how
amazing His grace is. Many churches have small Bible Study groups that meet at
various times throughout the week at different locations. This is usually a
smaller, more intimate group of people that lifelong friendships can be
connected to as you study the Bible.
This is church at its best.
Leonard Ravenhill had this
to say: “Christians don’t tell lies. They just go to church, and sing them. How
many times have you stood, and sang, ‘Take my life, and let it be’ when you
haven’t given Him one ounce.” All God wants
from you is to trust Him, and obey His will for you. If He wants you to
be at church on Sunday, God will work that out (without your help). He can do
amazing things in your life just wait and see (as you move forward with a heart
flexible to His ultimate, exciting plan for you. Who knows where this adventure
will take you?
