A Killer

“Housework can't kill you, but why take a chance?” (Phyllis Diller)

I have always seen a smaller percentage of dirt in my home than my wife (Bobbi) does. On a physical scale, what I see dirt-wise would be the size of my very small car key while Bobbi sees it all at the size of our enormous big flat screen TV. As a woman, Bobbi sees dirt that is not even on my radar for dirt. I really believe her mind magnifies dirt that isn’t that big of a deal to me.

Sometimes I don’t deal with the dirt that I do see because I figure it’s not going anywhere, and I’ll get to it at my convenience (my retiree mindset). When it comes to cleaning up dog hair, I’ve given up on that. With three dogs, it has become a prominent part of our life, which won’t go away until our Chihuahuas pass away so I don’t lose lots of time trying to remove it. (Dog accidents get immediate attention as they are cleaned up right away.)

Here are examples of our varied viewpoints on household cleaning. Where I might see the carpeted steps need vacuumed on one of the levels of our, Bobbi would see all the walls and baseboards around the steps need washed. Where I might notice the wood laminate floors on our main level need sanitized by steaming them (or cleaned with a Swiffer mop), Bobbi notices all our furniture and cabinets need a good dusting.  Where I notice a few crumbs on the kitchen countertop, Bobbi wants the countertop cleared and cleaned. In our storage room, I see a few things that could be organized better; Bobbi sees a room that could be on the next episode of the show, “Hoarders.” (You get the idea.)

Consider this: I am grateful for the lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and floors that need [mopped] because it means I have a home.” The next time you are tempted to complain about all you have to do around your home. Just remember some people would love to have the opportunity to be as fortunate as you are. Gratitude to God can always put our challenges into a more positive mindset. Isn’t our heavenly Father better to us than we deserve?
