“The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The realist adjusts the sails.” (William Arthur Ward)
Any good chef,
cook, or baker realizes that the taste of their recipe is only as good as the
quality of their ingredients. I believe life is a lot like that. You may have
little control over what happens to you, but you can be in charge of how you
view your life. Make it the best quality you can with what God has given you. (For most of us, life is not easy.) See both
the good and bad for what it is at the moment. Be realistic of your
expectations of yourself and others. No
one gets it right all the time.
The chorus of the
George Gershwin’s lyrics to the song, “Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries,” gives
some food for thought on viewing life with a unique realistic perspective (as
to pessimism or optimism). What do you think?
Life is just a bowl of cherries
Don't take it serious, it's too mysterious
You work, you save, you worry so
But you can't take your dough when you go, go, go
Life is a lot less serious when
you can laugh over the humorous parts of it. All you have to do is look around
you. Your heavenly Father has placed it in your world for both your enjoyment
and sanity. Bella Mumma said it best in her quote: “Always find a reason to
laugh. It may not add years to your life but will surely add life to your
years.”
I am a firm believer that looking for
blessings as you walk the pathway of your life has an important effect on how
grateful you are for what God has given you (whether that’s your possessions,
those you love, or helping someone in need). The face of Thanksgiving will look
different this year because of COVID-19. Have a joyful time with your loved
ones (as you once again realize just how good God is).
HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2020
