Loving

“In loving and serving, we prove that we have been created in the likeness of God, for God is Love and when we love we are like God.” (Mother Teresa)

Most of us are aware that the only way to serve God is through serving people. Matthew 25:40 (NOG) says: “…I can guarantee this truth: Whatever you did for one of my brothers or sisters (no matter how unimportant they seemed) you did for Me.” Serving others doesn’t have be some grand selfless gesture like volunteering to help a homeless ministry.

I believe we can show the love of God by daily serving those we care about with the daily routines we do for them like preparing a meal. Cleaning and straightening up common living quarters, or encouraging someone with a kind word (whether that’s digitally, by phone, or in person). Chances are you can think of many different ways that you show the love of God in your daily actions.

By no means do I believe God’s love can be shown to only human beings. We also show our service to God by the way we treat our pets (and animals). Your pets have the ability to love, and know right from wrong. (They are also created in the image of God with their ability to sense what’s going on.) Whenever you feed your pet, love them, or take them to the vet for a wellness check, you are serving God through serving His creation. We also serve God by the respect we show nature.

When it comes to serving God through serving people, I would like to close this post with a song that puts everything into perspective. The lyrics to “You’re the Only Jesus” by the Imperials says:

If not in you, I wonder where

will they ever see the One who really cares?

If not from you, how will they find

There's One who heals the broken heart,

and gives sight to the blind?

Chorus

You're the only Jesus

some will ever see

And you're the only words of life,

some will ever read

So let them see in you

the One in whom

is all they'll ever need

'Cause you're the only Jesus,

some will ever see

And if not you, I wonder who,

will show them love,

and love alone can make things new?

If not from you, how will they learn

There's one who'll trade their hopelessness

and give joy in return?

Chorus

Bridge

So let Him shine, let Him show

Let them see Him in you,

we've gotta let them know

Chorus

Tag

Cause you're the only Jesus

You're the only Jesus,

some will ever see.

Whose Jesus are you as you serve Him today?
