A Big Word

Promise is a big word. It either makes something or breaks everything.” (Lifehack)

Promises we make to other people are very important. We try our best to keep them because we know that it makes us a better person. Why is it that we so rarely keep the promises we make to ourselves? It’s as if other people are more important than us. We always postpone the things that we planned on doing. We promise ourselves to eat better, exercise, live healthier, lower our stress levels, spend more time with our family, and work less.

The things we promise ourselves should be just as important as the things that we promise other people. Once we start putting our happiness and well-being on the top of the list and once we make good on our promises, our entire life will change for the better. We’ll open up new opportunities, we’ll advance in all areas and we’ll start feeling better about ourselves. If you’re having a hard time deciding where to start, here are 5 promises you can start with and make sure you keep them.

I will lead the life I’ve always wanted to lead-We often lose focus of what’s really important in life – our dreams and how we’ve envisioned our life to look like. If there’s something about your life you don’t like, it’s your responsibility to change it. It’s your duty to live the life you’ve always wanted to live and there’s no excuse that will justify the fact you’re not where you wanted to be. Be yourself, discover what makes you tick and do the things that make you happy.

I will make the necessary changes in my life-Sometimes we just need to accept that we need a change in our life. We need to embrace this change and welcome it with arms wide open. When we do this, we’ll welcome the positivity in our life and be happy about the new things that are about to unravel. Every change can be good; it all depends on your attitude. Accept the new challenges and let them guide you to a new, better stage in your life.

I will no longer push myself beyond my limits-We’re so used to overworking ourselves that we rarely ever listen to our body when it tells us it needs a break. We need to rest and give our body time to recover; otherwise we’ll be much more vulnerable and prone to all kinds of diseases. Don’t rush through your day, take some time for yourself, relax and stop stressing about everything.

I will not obsess over the past-Constantly thinking about the past, examining how you’ve done things and what you could have done differently or better is completely unnecessary. You need to reflect on your mistakes, learn from them and simply let them go. They’re in the past and there’s nothing you can do about it. You can use them to do better next time and not let them ruin your future.

I will smile more-I don’t know what it is about smiling but even if you’ve had a bad day, putting on a big, wide smile makes everything better. You need to promise yourself that you will smile more, that you will smile every day even and make sure you keep this promise. Smiling makes you feel more confident, more beautiful, more positive and it reduces your stress level. It’s no secret that people who smile live a longer, happier life and that’s just one more reason why you need to start doing it every day.

13 Listen carefully, those of you who make your plans and say, “We are traveling to this city in the next few days. We’ll stay there for one year while our business explodes and revenue is up.” 14 The reality is you have no idea where your life will take you tomorrow. You are like a mist that appears one moment and then vanishes [away]. 15 It would be best to say, “If it is the Lord’s will and we live long enough, we hope to do this project or pursue that dream.” (James 4:13-15 VOICE)[i]
