“I am the Lord. That is my name. I will not give my glory to another. I will not let idols take the praise that should be mine.” (Isaiah 42:8, ICB)
The more beautiful your love is for someone. The more capacity it has to become an idol. Sometimes, we place our relationship with God in the back of our life without even realizing it. We don’t give it our full effort like we do many other things in our existence. You will love others best when you love God the most. Below are ten signs that say you’re idolizing someone (or something):
1. You find your worth and value in someone
(or something) because you get status, popularity, or power.
2. When you think of
your life without someone (or something), you feel empty inside.
3. When you’re away from someone
(or something), it is all you can think about all the time.
4. You often feel like someone
(or something) gives your life purpose without that there’s no meaning for you.
5. Someone (or something) has a
major influence on the way you feel and think about yourself. Someone (or
something) has total control of your self-esteem.
6. Most of your time is consumed
by someone (or something). If you could, you would spend all your time with
them.
7. You schedule everything around
someone (or something). You try to squeeze God in wherever you can instead
of making Him the priority to begin with.
8. You neglect other important
aspects of your life in order to focus on the one thing that really matters to
you.
9. You’d rather put your
faith into someone (or something) other than God.
10. You found yourself nodding
throughout this list, which concludes that you’ve got lots of spiritual work to
do.
“People were never meant to be idols. We aren't supposed to be
worshipped. Only God deserves that kind of praise.” (Karen Kingsbury) [i]
