Suppression

An ice cream sandwich is a frozen confection composed of a layer of ice cream sandwiched between two biscuits/cookies or slices of cake. When you're craving something sweet but you also want a sandwich, there's only one place to turn: the ice cream sandwich. This warm-weather treat was first sold at sporting events, but quickly found popularity at fairs and beaches.  Did you know?

·        Ice cream sandwiches were made by hand, and distributed by New York street vendors in the early 1940s; it wasn’t until 1945 that the first ice cream sandwiches were mass produced.

·        The ice cream sandwich ranks as the second best-selling ice cream novelty in America.

·        The average number of ice cream sandwiches eaten per second nationally is 48.

·        If all the ice cream sandwiches made last year were placed end to end, they would circle Earth 3 1/2 times.

·        The 30-44 age group buys the most ice cream sandwiches.

·        The eastern seaboard consumes almost 50 percent of all ice cream sandwiches.

·        The ice cream sandwich is so American it is sold at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.

·        The earliest known record of an ice cream sandwich occurred in 1894. The recipe calls for ice cream slathered between two slices of sponge cake.

·        The union of ice cream and cookie was created in 1928 in San Francisco, when a local vendor placed ice cream between two oatmeal cookies and dipped it in chocolate.

·        Back in 1905 on the Jersey Shore, ice cream sandwiches cost just 1 cent each.

·        A 'Chipwich' is the term given to a scoop of vanilla ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies.

·        In Scotland and Ireland, these sweet, cold sandwiches are referred to as "sliders."

·        August 2nd is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day.
