The Bowl

“Life is short. Lick the bowl.” (Anonymous)

It was the evening of my daughter’s twenty-first birthday (Allena, Saturday, July 29, 2017). Before we had our birthday dinner at On the Border, all of us decided to visit our nearby World Market store. My wife needed a beverage caddy for her coffee club at work.

We eventually left the premises unsuccessful in our mission. On our way to the front of the store, I saw a white handless mixing bowl in the kitchen area that I showed my wife (Bobbi), who wasn’t as excited as I was with the wisdom painted on it. The above quote on it spoke to me. (See the picture below.)

A bucket list is a list of things that one wants to do before they die. The above quote was a great reminder to not wait for “someday” to arrive to do all those things you dreamed of. James 4:14 (CSB) makes this true statement: Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring (what your life will be)... You are like vapor that appears for a little while, [and] then vanishes.” Here are easy ways for everyone to live their life to its fullest in the here and now:

1.            Book that vacation you’ve always dreamed about

2.            Care for both your body and mind in a healthy manner

3.            Don’t live in fear of getting emotionally (or physically) hurt

4.            Enjoy the simple (child-like) pleasures of life

5.            Focus balancing both the time involved with work and home

6.            Focus on thinking positively

7.            Get out of a bad relationship now

8.            Get to know others by talking, and putting your cell phone away

9.            Lear something new through your local library

10.    Make a difference with your life, and (in some small way) pay something good forward

11.    Rest time is important in every aspect of your life

12.    Stop being jealous of what others have because maybe they deserve it

You know, the ancient Egyptians had a beautiful belief about death. When their souls got to the entrance to Heaven, the guards asked two questions. Their answers determined whether they were able to enter or not. 'Have you found joy in your life?' 'Has your life brought joy to others?' (Morgan Freeman) [i]
