The Silence

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” (Martin Luther King, Jr.)

If your loving Heavenly Father has given you the gift of talkativeness, you realize this fundamental truth about yourself. You are happiest in life when you are communicating (whether verbally or electronically) with other people you care about (in some degree).
Every talkative individual knows this gift brings with it both assets and challenges. (Remember, some shy individuals would love to have your gift of talkativeness that comes so easily to you. The Almighty has not blessed them with a personality like yours. A talkative person tends to have...

·        Better verbal communication skills
          ·        Their own unique opinion
          ·        Skills in problem solving
          ·        Better skills in relating to other individuals.

·        More abilities to participate in any given situation

·        More to say

·        A great deal of energy

·        A way of being the life of wherever they are at

          ·        Better parenting skills

Here is my list of talkative challenges. (Some of these will either make you smile or flinch. Good luck either way.):

1.     In meetings, you often become self-conscious about talking too much (but no matter how hard you try), you can't really help yourself.

2.     People who know you don't pay attention to what you say most of the time anyway.

3.     Sometimes, you're exhausted by the sound of your own voice.

4.     Whenever you stay quiet for a while, people immediately assume you are ill.

5.     You often randomly jump into strangers' conversations.

6.     You often talk too fast , and say things without thinking.

7.     You prefer calling to texting.

8.     You've heard about awkward silence, but you've never experienced it.

9.     You've tried giving the silent treatment to people before, but it never lasted more than a few minutes.

“I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers.” (Khalil Gibran)[i]
