Like Jail

Facebook is like a jail. You sit around, waste time, have a profile picture, write on walls and get poked by guys you don't really know.” (BestSayingsQuote.com)

This post is a result of my absolute curiosity as to what a Facebook “like” means to me (and others). No one I ask seems to know an absolute answer to my inquiring. Every Sunday morning at church the bulletin asks me to like my church on Facebook. The occasional e-mails I receive from my dentist conclude with an invitation to like them on Facebook. Let’s discover the true meaning of my search for an answer together.

The Facebook like button was first enabled on February 9, 2009. It allows users to easily remark on status updates, comments, photos, links shared by friends, and advertisements. Once clicked by a user, the designated content appears in the news feeds of that user's friends. The button also displays the number of other users who have liked the content (including a full or partial list of those users).

The simplest indication for a customer that a business is prosperous is that new likes on a Facebook page show things are working well. When you last visited a company on Facebook, and saw a small number of likes did you think “why do they have so few likes?” When you see a business that’s been active for years, and they have few likes, you know there is a problem. If we’ve learned one thing from Facebook, it’s that it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
At the end of the day it feels great to get a virtual endorsement that says “I like your company. Thanks for what you do”. Having a well-liked Facebook page is a great way to gain major brand exposure, cultivate relationships, and communicate with a targeted audience.

Mobile data users are spending about 75% of their browsing time on Facebook. Websites now allow you to sign in using their Facebook connect option. If you want to be taken as a serious business, you need to get busy on Facebook. Many people go to Facebook to see how legit a business is. The question always is if likes are so important, how can a business get more of them? That is all up to your creativity. Get busy, and imagine what will work best for your business.

I want to make my name on Facebook “Nobody” so when I see someone post something stupid I can like it, and it will say “Nobody likes this.” (BestSayingsQuote.com)[i]
