Square Up

[Question]: What is one thing in life you really enjoy doing? It causes you to lose track of time when you are in the midst of it… [i]

[Ten reasons I love to quilt by Bobbi Kinker]:

1.   It’s a way to create something of beauty that can be passed down through a family [for generations].

2.   A completed quilt shows I was able to concentrate long enough to finish this project.

3.   Quilting bees allow people (mostly women) to gather, talk, and exchange information as they work towards a common goal.

4.   Group quilting builds unity with other people of the same bent.

5.   True creativity is involved in picking colors and sewing designs together.

6.   Frugality is involved in saving and recycling scraps of material.

7.   Quilts are sometimes memories of special events in someone’s life.

8.   Quilting trips (shop hops) are a fun way to meet new friends, get away from it all, and immerse oneself in a beloved hobby.

9.   Quilting is a lost art that will one day vanish if subsequent generations don’t keep it going.

10.         This hobby can become expensive if it is not kept in check…[ii]

[i] The quilting term “square up” refers to a final trimming of a block of material (or section) to insure measurements are accurate.
