If you search the
scriptures, you will discover individuals of many different nationalities (and
even an animal) that either received (or gave) a message from God.
Here are my
favorites: Adam (and Eve), Job, Noah, Abraham (and Sarah), Balaam’s donkey, Moses,
Queen Esther, Paul, Joseph (and Mary), Elizabeth, and Pontius Pilot’s wife.
In my existence,
I have had hundreds of “nudges” from my loving Heavenly Father to do the right
(or needed) action at the time. I can remember only a few experiences when I was
involved in communicating (or being the recipient of) a Heavenly message. (See What’s a Girl to Do? and Uncomfortable, but Needed)
In 2005 (four
years before my cancer showed up),the Kinker family was attending a small
Southern Baptist church (close to the neighborhood library). I was in my early
forties.
During a
particular church service on an ordinary Sunday morning, I had chosen to go to
the prayer room to get some peace on a life challenge I was stressed about. In
walked my good friend “Jim Barkin,” (see Walk
the Talk?) God had told him exactly what I was struggling with. (I’d never
spoken to him at any time about what it was.) When we prayed together (about
it), emotionally it felt like the weight of the world had been lifted from my
shoulders.
The most recent
time I received an unexpected utterance from God’s mouth came from my twenty
year-old daughter in her dormitory room in Circleville, OH (via text). It
happened on Monday, September 12, 2016, at around 9:45pm. Here’s how our
correspondence went.
Allena: My friend said
you’re “made whole.” He gets words from God, and that was for you.
Me: Ask your friend to explain that a
bit more. Tell him thanks though.
Allena: That’s all he
got.
Me: Tell him I appreciate it.
Suggest my blog as he might find that inspiring. Can you tell me anything about
this friend? Have you been discussing me lately?
Allena: Nope, not
talking about you at all to be honest.
It’s typical of
the Almighty (in many of my life issues) to leave the interpretation of His
message entirely up to my own fertile imagination.
I have so many complications
in my world that I try to work on (in my own power) that it seems at times like
I’m paddling (and scooping out water) in a boat full of holes. I Feel many
times like I’m in sinking mode.
When will I learn
to give it all over to my Heavenly Father? My shoulders are just not broad
enough to take on the entire world, but His are.
Hebrews 4:12-13
(MSG) makes provides this lesson. “God means what He
says. What He says goes. His powerful word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel,
cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen
and obey. Nothing and no one is [resistant] to God’s Word. We can’t get away
from it – no matter what.”
Don’t fight God in
wanting to use you. In the end, His request is all that matters. Either He can
choose you to fulfill His need, or find another eager servant that is capable
to carry out His duty.
Who knows what
blessings await you (or may be bypassed)? For someone you could be the
difference between life and death (or hope and despair). Do you really want to
pass up on such a sweet deal (of the divine kind)?
