If you knew that one
of your strongest beliefs was based on a commonly accepted misconception, would
you want to know the reality about it, or remain uninformed? John 8:32 (MSG)
proclaims, “Then you will experience for
yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.”
It has always worked
out best for me to have accurate facts so that I am able to always make the
best decisions (for me) in every area of my life. I am also a big proponent on personal
freedom too.
I enjoy being able to
learn what I need to know from others, worship as I see fit, drive to the
places I need to be at (like work), listen to helpful audio books, and watch
television that both challenges (and entertains) me.
Adam Conover
(comedian and star of the CollegeHumor web series) is the quirky host of
TruTv’s Adam Ruins Everything
(Tuesday evening, 9c/10e). This show employs the use of comedy (skits),
science, history, lectures, interviewing experts (and citing references) in dispelling
popular viewpoints about everything society takes for granted.
Conover’s cynical attitude
about debunking established truths is summarized in this quote by him. “Sorry I
used facts to explain why you were wrong.”
Adam Ruins Everything is much like a friend who knows way too much sensitive
information about you, and has a gossiping difficulty. (Who knows when embarrassing
information could surface?)
Adam
has thus far debunked popular myths on topics such as: giving, security, cars, forensic science,
restaurants, hygiene, voting, work, summer fun, sex, nutrition, death,
Hollywood (reality TV, awards), football (and concussions), love (and the wedding
industry), malls, animals, and immigration.
If you
are a seeker of truth, I think the show’s title is a bit misleading. (I guess Adam Enlightens Everything wouldn’t be
as catchy for viewers.) I have learned so much valuable information from this
show that has helped me make better informed decisions (on a wide array of subjects)
In my walk with God, I have learned that my Heavenly
Father often makes His voice clear (and precise) in what He needs me to do. Psalm 15:2 (MSG) is
a great example of this. “Walk
straight, act right, and tell the truth.” (It can’t get much simpler than that.)
Much like
Adam Conover, the Almighty seeks to make clear in your life the right path to
travel. Pruning (not ruin) is always His prime objective in helping you become
the best version of yourself possible.
