Break Time

For many of us, Highlights for Children magazine and “Mad Libs” (The World’s Greatest Word Game) are cherished memories of our childhood. These teaching aids helped us (as kids) to feel both important and creative in our world of adults.

As a child, how much do you remember from elementary school? Take a brain break (as you travel back in time), and enjoy some writing fun from the February 2015 issue of Highlights for Children magazine.

The directions are simple in creating this unique story entitled “School-Party Surprise.” Just fill in the blanks (on a numbered sheet of paper from one to eleven) with the appropriate piece of grammar requested. Share your own unique trip down memory’s lane with others ( as you relax and enjoy my form favorite hobby).

(Person’s name, 1) rode in a (Form of transportation, 2) to school carrying a box of (Plural noun, 3). It was (Noun, 4) day!  The class would have a (Adjective, 5) party. They would eat (Adjective, 6) snacks. They would trade (Plural noun, 7). (Person’s name, 8) had spent (Number, 9) hours decorating the classroom with (Plural noun, 10). Everyone would think it was the Adjective ending in “est,” 11) party ever!

Have you ever thought of these biblical methods to become more at peace with yourself? If you try them, I know you’ll become more tranquil.

1.  Do your best to stay as positive as possible in any negative situation. Worrying is unproductive (and exhausting). While finding a solution to a challenge, you are moving in a positive direction to resolution.

“Worry weighs us down; a cheerful word picks us up.”

Proverbs 12:25 (MSG)

“Rid yourself of all worry and pain, because the wonderful moments of youth quickly disappear.”

2.  It is true that you feel better (as well as are more energetic) about yourself when you are helping others become better versions of themselves.

“When someone gets to the end of his rope, I feel desperation in my bones. When someone is duped into sin, an angry fire burns in my gut.”

2 Corinthians 11:28 (MSG)
