We got a flyer in the mail some time ago for
Merion Village Dental (www.mymvd.com). In addition to the middle aged woman
with the pearly whites on the front) and there was an offer of a $100 Visa gift
card for new patients were these words (in large print): “Life is better with
teeth. Ignoring dental health is a big mistake.”
This reminds me of a Dental Hygienist friend
I spoke to years ago at a church my family was attending. I was somewhere in my
thirties. I think.) Like many people I knew, my teeth had been a challenge
(with procedures like fillings, teeth being pulled, crowns, and bridges). I
told her it would have to better to have full dentures like my dad had when he
was alive.
“Theresa” got an anxious look on her face,
and told me it was always best to keep my natural teeth as long as was possible
(no matter the inconvenience). False teeth were not something one wanted to
deal with unless that was a last resort to prevent further dental problems.
Bad teeth can affect a person’s self esteem
(in communicating with others (bad breath), smiling, or family portraits).
Periodontal ailments can lead to heart disease, Diabetes, Dementia, Rheumatoid
Arthritis, and premature births.
In all of our life events, it is important to
remember the truth of Psalm 124:6 (CEB). “Bless the Lord because He didn’t hand us over like
food for our enemies’ teeth!” You are never abandoned by the Almighty. God is right there with you
24/7.
Many of us are
familiar with the cliché that was adapted from Job 19:20 (ICB). “I am nothing but skin and bones. I have
escaped with only the skin of my
teeth.” Today, this saying describes a situation from
which one barely manages to escape.
If you live by
that cliché, as your friend I am asking you to stop such destructive behavior.
(It affects you and those who care about you.) Proverbs 10:23 (HCSB) makes this
observation about this kind of person.
