If
you’re on the look-out for it, valuable wisdom can be discovered almost anywhere
(Proverbs 16:16). It can even be discovered in an episode of one of my favorite
television shows, the Golden Girls.
In
the episode, “Strange Bedfellows,” Blanche Devereaux (played by Rue McClanahan)
tells Gil Kessler (played by John Schuck) “You’ll never be a great man, Gil,
without being an honest man.”
Are
you an honest person? Do you often tell small fibs when they suit your
purposes? Do people consider you someone of integrity? Is your word as good as
money in the bank? Can you be trusted? These are all good questions to
consider.
I
Thessalonians 4:12 says, “We want you
living in a way that will command the respects of [others], not lying around sponging off your
friends.” In just a few words, this verse does a great job of telling us
all to be worthy of respect (implying honesty and integrity) and being busy with the work we have to
do.
“Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” (Psalms 25:5, NIV) We all need the Almighty to show
us the right direction to go in our life. When it’s all said and done, our
Heavenly Father is the only real source of truth that never changes. You can be
absolutely certain of that fact.
