The Way We Were

“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” This advice that God gave to the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2:4 (NKJV) still applies to us today. My rephrasing of the above verse would simply say, “Why did you lose your passion?”

Maybe what could give you a reason to go on would be a vivacious, loving marriage with your spouse (who means the world to you). Life (in general) and becoming comfortable with the way things are have robbed you of some of your joy. Philippians 2:3 is the solution to this challenge. It’s difficult to dislike someone that you are making a loving priority above yourself.

There may be a hobby (or a talent you have) that defines who you are. In other words it gives you a purpose for waking up every morning. Let’s say that is oil painting. A next logical step might be to enter your artwork into a variety of contests. Nothing reconfirms your talents more than the positive comments of others.

Maybe to be truly satisfied in life, you need to rekindle your spiritual walk with God. If helping others gives you a sense of well being, you may want to veer your specific passion into an employment (or volunteer) opportunity.

Chances are most people know what gives their life that extra zing. Get back to what you know you should be doing. Objections won’t work here. Both you and God expect your best. Don’t lose your fervor for anyone (or anything).
