The Response

In the home/temple of Eli, the boy Samuel heard God’s voice in the middle of the night. His response eventually turned out to be, “Speak, I’m your servant, ready to listen.” For all the details, read I Samuel 3. Upon entering most stores, you will find a greeter proclaiming, “Good evening (morning or afternoon). Welcome to (the store name).”  People seem to like this small touch of human kindness before they get ready to spend money.

“How can I help you?” or “Do you need me?” are other ways to add thoughtfulness to your interaction with other individuals when you sense a need. Are these phrases part of your vocabulary? If not, you should consider them.

A customer service attitude in life causes you to seek out ways that you can be of service to others. This makes the bad times in life much more bearable to know your experiences may help someone else with a similar experience go through the situation just a little easier. God doesn’t waste anything in your life. It’s all of use to Him. When the Almighty knocks on the door of your heart, maybe your response to His urging should be the same as the boy Samuel (who eventually became the Prophet Samuel). “Speak; I’m your servant, ready to listen.”
