I’m Here

Are you present in all aspects of your life? A great example of not being available mentally in the moment involves face-to-face interaction. Have you ever spoken to someone that you could tell they were somewhere else in their mind? Signs are eyes that flutter to others around the room, constantly paying attention to or being interrupted by a cell phone, or having a conversation cut short to communicate with another individual
The Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12) of “do unto others as you’d have them do unto you” especially applies to the age of electronics and computers. If you are the a parent of small children,  mealtimes can sometimes be like something out of real bad comedy movie in which you and your spouse may have been involuntarily thrown in to.
During these meals food can find its way to various places on the body. What’s been prepared by you can end up on the floor, or as a base on the kitchen table for dancing. Do you zone out during these times wishing you didn’t always have become the harsh, yelling warden. Remember these years will vanish soon, and you will look back and laugh. Really!
With a group of your best friends, your mind is one hundred miles away (with all the events that are going on in your own family) from the laughter and talking that’s going on at the table you are sitting at. The celebration of a friend’s birthday (at the table) should be joyous, but all you want to do is leave the restaurant. Why not put the family in the back of your mind, and celebrate with everything inside you.

Make the most out of life. Enjoy every minute of your existence here on Earth because there is no do over (or going back in time). It’s time to take the biggest step of your life, and become completely available to every opportunity that comes your way. Though there are times when being mentally present is good, the majority of the time not zoning out is a wonderful thing.
