Diamonds

Women not only love diamonds, but are also strong like them.” (Anonymous)

When the first man, Adam, met his wife, Eve (and the first female), he defined her in Genesis 2:23 (ICB) with a word we still use today: …Now, this is someone whose bones came from my bones. Her body came from my body. I will call her woman because she was taken out of man.” Venus is the Roman goddess of love, beauty, prosperity, fertility, and victory. All parts of who a woman is internally. But for men, we believe trying to learn how to speak Latin (a dead language) may be easier than trying to read (and understand) what’s on a woman’s mind. The average woman takes on many different roles within her lifetime.

They are mothers, young professionals, best friends, students, and the other half of many relationships. What you need to understand is that women are unique in every aspect. They are strong, willing, caring, determined, and any other adjective in the dictionary all in a twenty-four hour period. Through the history of human beings, the differences have helped men and women survive mostly working together.

Don’t let the differences between men and women get in the way of your health or life goals.  Women all around the world are intriguing.  Though our sexes are different, it is these differences that are both real and important to us, and aid us in living life to its fullest. Here are fun facts about women that you may find funny, interesting, and curious:

·        A woman will more easily trust somebody who hugs her for at least 15 seconds.

·        A woman’s circadian rhythm is more likely to be short of a 24-hour period. (They’re often six minutes short of a full day.) Men are more likely to be night owls. But women function better during periods of sleep deprivation.

·        A woman’s skin is two times more sensitive than a man’s skin.
·        Female muscles are more flexible because they contain elastin.

·        Folate is an essential vitamin. Women and men both need it. It’s especially crucial for women of child-bearing age. If they become pregnant, women need enough folate to support the neural development of their babies.

·        For most of life, men and women have the same vitamin D requirements. But older women need to up their intake of vitamin D that’s because it promotes better calcium absorption.

·        From about age 14 to 51, women typically need more iron than men. This is due to their loss of blood during menstruation, which typically happens in a cycle of 28 to 40 days.

·        In ancient Rome women used Gladiator sweat to improve their beauty and complexion.

·        In China, women who are unmarried by their late 20s or 30s are called, “Sheng nu,” which means the leftover woman.

·        In Russia, there are 9 million more women than men.

·        Men and women carry different amounts of body fat. The higher body fat in women (about 10 percent) mostly supports reproductive physiology. When a woman’s body fat gets too low, she stops menstruating. Women typically carry their body fat in their hips and thighs. Fat tends to deposit around men’s stomachs.

·        Men cry 6 to 17 times in a year, but women cry an average 30–60 times per year.

·        Men normally have more red blood cells (4.7–6.1 million cells per microliter compared to 4.2–5.4 million cells per microliter for women).

·        Men speak about 13,000 words a day while women can speak about 20,000 words a day.

·        On average, women in South Africa earn a third less than their male counterparts.

·        Only 2% of women all around the world describe themselves as a beautiful.

·        The differences in the way men and women see the world is partly physical. Women are able to distinguish small difference in color better. Men are more likely to be colorblind, but their eyes also sense movement better.

·        The first computer programmer was a woman, Ada Lovelace.

·        The longest human pregnancy on record was a woman from Los Angeles named Beulah Hunter. She gave birth in 1945 after carrying her baby for 375 days — a full three months longer than normal. (But it was in the days before ultra-sound, so it may just be a case of miscalculation.)

·        The richest woman in the world is Christy Walton. Worth $41.7 billion, she inherited a stake in Wal-Mart, which accounts for most of her fortune.

·        The second longest finger for most women is next to their thumb—the index finger. But men are the opposite. They usually have ring fingers—those next to their pinkie finger—that are longer than their index fingers.

·        The woman who underwent the world’s first successful womb transplant became pregnant in 2013.

·        There are differences in the way male and female brains are structured, how they process information, and interact with chemical signals. Men have more information-containing gray matter, but women have more white matter, which connects different parts of the brain. Women have bigger memory centers than men.

·        Women are less likely to be involved in car accidents.

·        Women believe that in an argument with a man that they are always right.

·        Women can talk with their girlfriend on the phone for two hours, and still talk when they meet up in the same day.

·        Women eat about 4.40925 pounds of lipstick in their life.

·        Women have better senses of smell and taste. They have 50 more cells (neurons) in their olfactory bulbs—the part of the brain responsible for processing smells. Women also usually have more taste buds than men.

·        Women have only been able to vote in the whole of Switzerland since 1991.

·        Women have significantly more nightmares than men.

·        Women listen with both sides of their brain.

·        Women live longer than men. This is partially because their immune systems age slower.

·        Women look at themselves about 5 times a day in a mirror.

·        Women multitask better than men because the orpus callosum in the female brain is larger.

·        Women typically have lower blood pressure than men regardless of race or ethnicity.

·        Zinc needs are generally similar for men and women. Both sexes store zinc in bones, but men also store the essential mineral in their prostate. Pregnant and post-menopausal women require more zinc

“Women are the real architects of society.  ” (Cher)[i]

Greater

“Whenever God restores something, He restores it to a place greater than it was before.” (Bill Johnson)

Failure among God’s people is nothing new. Biblical history is plagued with it. Samson, Abraham, Solomon, Jonah, the Hebrews, all twelve of the disciples of Jesus, and King David (a man in love with God) all failed. All of these people committed willful disobedient sin, aiding and abetting the enemy after having once pledged faithfulness to God. In both the Old and New Testament, their proof of failure is both overwhelming.

Equally overwhelming is the evidence that God is in the restoration business. Throughout the Bible is the astonishing record of the God’s effort to restore those who are eternally His, but who in a moment of weakness betrayed their initial loyalty. There are common threads that indicate restoration. These threads have the potential of releasing the backslidden from their bondage, and restoring them to employment in His kingdom.

Restoration is more than mending broken hearts and bringing a person back to their former condition of faithfulness. It is restoring spiritually injured Christians into productive service for the glory of God. Restoration is not only possible, it is encouraged. In the biblical stories, not all who went astray were restored to the God. What separates the restored from the condemned? 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT) gives the answer with this four-step process:

“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”

Humble-To start the restoration process you must first recognize your emptiness before God. You have no approval before God. You are both guilty and unworthy to be in God’s presence. God is everything to you.

Pray-Prayer is an act of humility. Prayer is not presenting God with a list of desires. God does care about your needs and wants you to give Him what concerns you. The primary purpose of prayer is to prepare you to perform the perfect will of God. After you humble yourself before God, you then seek to discover His will for your life through prayer.

Fellowship-To seek God’s approval is to live in His presence as you fellowship with Him. Prayer is the doorway through which you enter into communion with God continually. To fellowship with God is to live one’s life every second as if serving before God’s throne in Heaven.

It is to be in constant dialogue with God. It is to be intimate with God as you talk to Him in prayer. To seek for God is to walk with Him in such close fellowship that the line between earth and Heaven becomes blurred. God wants to lead you from humility into prayer; and from prayer into fellowship with Him.

Repentance-Repentance is turning from your “wicked” ways. Repentance is the offspring of fellowship. God intends to bring you from humility into prayer, from prayer into fellowship with God, and fellowship gives birth to repentance, a change in one’s mindset towards God.

God is saying to you, “I’m going to repay you for the years the enemy has stolen, years you spent lonely, years you spent mistreated. You are going to have plenty of joy, plenty of peace, plenty resources, and plenty of opportunities. Amen. (Joel Olsteen)[i]

Jesus

“Wash your hands and say your prayers because Jesus and germs are everywhere.”  (Delia32Agnes)

Hands are responsible for the spread of 80% of common infectious diseases. Hand-washing remains one of the easiest and cheapest ways to prevent the spread of bacteria. 1 in 5 people don't wash their hands and of those that do only 30% use soap.

The importance of hand-washing was discovered only 150 years ago. Hand-washing is still the best way to prevent respiratory and infectious diseases that are transmitted by hand to mouth (or hand to nose/eye contact.) Disposable paper towels (or air drying) should be used in a public facility as the use of ‘communal’ towels can lead to contamination.

Soap acts as a vehicle to trap viruses and bacteria that are loosened by the act of rubbing your hands together under water. These germs can then be rinsed away by the water. You can help yourself and your loved ones stay healthy by washing your hands often especially during key times when you are likely to get and spread germs:

·        After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing

·        After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet

·        After handling pet food or pet treats

·        After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste

·        After touching garbage

·        After using the toilet

·        At the end of each work/school period

·        Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick with vomiting or diarrhea

·        Before and after treating a cut or wound

·        Before each break

·        Before eating food

·        Before, during, and after preparing food

·        Whenever hands are dirty or contaminated

Healthcare workers must follow a stricter hand washing process:

·        After body fluid exposure/risk

·        After touching a patient

·        After touching patient surroundings

·        Before clean/aseptic procedures

·        Before touching a patient

Follow these steps every time for effective handwashing:

o   Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.

o   Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.

o   Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.

o   Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.

o   Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them. (The skin should always be properly dried to avoid risk of chapping particularly during cold weather.)

You can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. Sanitizers can quickly reduce the number of germs on hands in many situations. Sanitizers do not get rid of all types of germs. Hand sanitizers may not be as effective when hands are visibly dirty or greasy. Hand sanitizers might not remove harmful chemicals from hands like pesticides and heavy metals.

Follow these steps everytime for effective hand sanitizer use:

·        Apply the gel product to the palm of one hand (read the label to learn the correct amount).

·        Rub your hands together.

·        Rub the gel over all the surfaces of your hands and fingers until your hands are dry. This should take around 20 seconds. (Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.)

“Each year we lose 22 million school days due to common cold, and keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps for fighting the cold and flues.” (Global Handwashing Day, October 15th)[i]

Distraction

“The right relationship won’t distract you from God. It will bring you closer to Him.” (Jason Evert)

Is God part of your romantic relationship? Your main concerns on a date probably revolve around how kind, smart, generous, and funny the person is. The topic of religion may not even be brought up in conversation. Within the Christian faith, dating is a little different in fact. They call it Christian courting. Christian courting revolves around maintaining God's presence within your potential relationship.

Courtship is a choice to avoid temptation and experience the blessings of purity. It is a choice to not emotionally give away your heart, piece by piece, to many others through casual dating relationships, and instead to give your whole heart to your life partner. It is a choice to wait for God’s best, for His glory. It is a decision to walk by faith, to trust in God, to honor others above yourself, and to believe that God will deal abundantly with you because He is love.

The main difference between dating and courtship involves the goals to be reached by spending time with a potential marriage partner. Men and women who choose to date often have no commitment to consider marrying the other person. Maturity and readiness for marriage are not considerations in the decision to date. Instead, couples usually date with the selfish goals of having fun and enjoying romantic attachments.

The couple must decide if it is in God's will that they are together in marriage. The couple must also have a mentor within their relationship.  A pastor, parent, or close friend may be the mentor. This mentor ensures that the couple stays faithful to each other and God. In courtship, both parties in the relationship have their family’s front and center. A family’s approval holds a lot of meaning within a Christian courtship.

If, during the courtship, one or both parties realize that marriage is not God’s will and they end the relationship, the courtship has not failed. On the contrary, the courtship was successful, because God gave the direction that was sought through it.

What are some ideas of interesting activities a couple could do during a Christian courtship?

Attend a cooking class-Cooking involves creating something new and it is also a wonderful experience. Regardless of your previous cooking achievements, be brave and allow your affection to grow during the Christian courtship period. Women love a man who can cook or at least is willing to learn.

Discover hidden history-Even if you both are local residents, there is some history that you don’t know about the place where you live. A good guide will be able to show you sights and tell exciting stories of courage and bravery that lift your spirits. Shared emotional experiences are at the core of people growing spiritually close.

Go to farmers markets-You will be doing lots of shopping during your marriage, so why not make the first trip together as a couple more enjoyable, and buy fresh produce at farmers markets. If you are comfortable with being together, cook a lunch from what you have purchased. Plan your meal ahead but don’t just rush around. Take time and savor the tastes.

Read and study the Bible (and prayer) - The first rule in Christian courtship is the first rule in all of life: You are to love the Lord Yahweh, your God, with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength. This is the great and supreme commandment. (Mark 12:30, TPT).

You will not truly love anyone else if you do not love God first and most. No one will truly love you if they do not love God more than they love you. Prayer and Bible reading, study, and obedience to the Word will draw you both closer to your heavenly Father and each other. It will be the glue to keep a strong, healthy marriage together.

See a musical (or concert)-Many couples go to movies, but there is so much more to the entertainment industry than screens. Live theatre or music has a lot to experience. Find out what types of performances each enjoys and give them the experience of a lifetime by taking them to see her favorite artist, group, or play.

Visit a museum or art gallery-Usually these are the places where guys rarely invite their dates. Men are more likely to buy tickets to a sporting event than enjoy exploring art and culture in a museum. This means, such an invitation will be very special and surprising to your lady friend. She may feel like the luckiest girl in the world that she found one guy who also treasures cultural pursuits.

Visit a theme park-Going to a theme park is a full day activity and it allows you to step out of the usual routine and spend some substantial time together. People are more relaxed around fun rides. Your reactions become more natural and comfortable and your bond is likely to grow.

“When you meet someone who tries their hardest to stick by you regardless of how difficult you are, keep them. Keep them at all costs because finding someone who cares enough to look past your flaws isn’t something that happens every day.” (Sambadi Sen)[i]

Disinfectants

“Soap and water and common sense are the best disinfectants.” (William Osler)

Just where and when humans first observed the chemical reaction between oil and potash is unknown. One legend says it was at “Mount Sapo” in ancient Rome, where a creek flowed over a deposit of wood ash and animal fats created by sacrificial fires for the gods. Soap has been around since about 2800 BC in Ancient Babylon; the ruins of Pompeii revealed an entire soap factory. Frontier women made all of their own soaps from rendered animal fats. Affordably manufactured soap was widely available by the 1800s.

Bar soaps were innovated in the nineteenth century.  Detergents originated in 1916 Germany, and the commercial soap we know today came into existence during WWII.  The soap-making industry added problematic chemicals to the soap equation that included propyl alcohol, limonene, benzaldehyde, and methylene chloride.

Some soap ingredients are derived from animals rendered in factories while others are known to be toxic, even carcinogenic, and contain byproducts of petroleum. All natural, plant-oil-based soaps provide an eco-conscious alternative. Soap making is almost like baking with the comparison because of the time and mixing of ingredients required. It's requires a certain amount of love and attention to make every batch.

In its basic form, soap consists of just three components: a strong base such as potash or lye, oil, and water. Blended at the right proportions and temperatures, these ingredients produce a chemical reaction called saponification which renders the lye, normally caustic and dangerous when mixed with water, entirely benign while breaking apart the oils and eliminating their cloying greasiness.

Although curing (allowing the soap to dry and harden) takes about a month, the first and most demanding steps take just 30 minutes for practiced soap makers. Now consider that a year’s supply can be made in a single batch. Each bar will cost about a dollar. You won’t risk exposure to any lingering poisons.

Handmade soaps contain glycerin which is a natural skin softener that attracts water from the surrounding air. Most commercial soaps will have this natural ingredient removed thus leaving your skin dried out. Instead of purchasing one product that can clean and moisturize, you will now have to purchase two products; soap and lotion. This is another way companies are able to increase their profits.

Many commercial soaps use chemical fragrances that are imitations of the real thing. Some of these chemicals can actually be skin irritants.  With natural handmade soaps you are actually benefiting from not having these chemicals on your skin. In addition, some soaps use essential oils which have many great therapeutic properties. Soaps used with Tea Tree for example will have anti-inflammatory properties which is great for skin.

“Anybody who doesn’t know what soap tastes like never washed a dog.” (Franklin P. Jones)[i]

Everything

Everything must be done in a proper and orderly way. (1 Corinthians 14:40, GW)

Does it seem like there aren't enough hours in the day, or dollars in the bank to do all you need to accomplish? Is your car usually running on empty, and your trash can full? You’re suffering from the common affliction of being too busy. You have little down time to relax. The good news is that there’s a cure. It’s called organization. Staying organized makes life easier (now and in the future).

Just think about how much better it could be to find the belongings you need as you avoid last minute difficulties. While staying organized can seem like a daunting task, there are some habits that almost all organized people practice. Adding these habits to your own life will help you get organized and stay that way. You may find that you really struggle in the first few days or weeks, but the reward of living an organized lifestyle will be worth it in the end.

Address Correspondence Daily-Organized people take care of their correspondence on a daily basis. It does not matter whether it comes by text, email or paper mail. They set aside a specific time of day and handle all their correspondence at that time. During this time, they file information that is most important to them in an organized manner and discard the rest. They understand how to separate relevant and irrelevant information and do so effectively.

Become a List Maker-The most organized people create a list that tells them exactly what they need to accomplish. After creating the list, they then set priorities. They are driven to take care of the things that matter most first, and then use leftover time to do the rest. They constantly have their lists with them as they do not trust their memories to keep them on the right track. An important part of setting priorities is dealing with the biggest problems first and then moving on from there. They understand when doing their best is good enough, and when they must put in an all-out effort.

Become Conscientious-People who are organized are more conscientious. They focus on what they can do to make the world a better place. They are inclined to be very self-disciplined. Because of this, they are often content to tell others that they cannot handle a task while disorganized people tend to accept too much responsibility.

Create a Space for Everything-They do not waste time looking for anything. They take the time to put everything back in its place when they are done using it. Most organized people have very few processions because they realize that the more things that they own. The more time it takes to care for them. They keep the most important things that they need very near to them as this eliminates the need to get up and go find them. When a person gets up from a task, they often become distracted leading to disorganization.

Eat a Proper Diet-Doing as much as possible every day in an organized manner requires lots of energy. Organized people program in time to eat a proper diet. They do not grab the closest thing when their energy level begins to ebb because they have properly nourished their bodies so that they have a constant supply of energy. They prepare the food they need in advance for their daily schedule.

Embrace a Positive Attitude-People who are organized see the positive in life. Then they concentrate on what they can do to make their life better. Many disorganized people see life negatively, and have no real idea of how to make its best. So staying optimistic is powerful.

Evaluate-Organized people spend some time at the conclusion of each day evaluating what they have accomplished throughout the day. Then they know what their top priorities must be for the next day. They use their lists to help them create a new agenda before going to bed for the night.

Finish-The hallmark of a disorganized individual is that they never finish what they start. Alternatively, an organized individual will always finish what they start. Organized individuals tend to maximize every moment that is available to make sure that they do a great job, too. Staying organized means that the individual has a list of goals that they are working on constantly. Some may be short-term goals while others may take longer to accomplish. Organized people tend to complete a task and then move on to the next. They tend to get more done at the end of the day because they do not allow themselves to be constantly interrupted.

Get Started Correctly-People who are organized start out with a routine each morning. That routine may look different for some than it does for others. Some find it helps them to start their day with meditation (or Bible reading and prayer to God) while others find that exercising helps them get started. Establishing a pattern that you will follow each day helps you start to get your life together.

Leave Extra Time-If you watch an organized person throughout the day, you see that they are never rushed. That is because they have built extra time into their schedule allowing them not to panic if the unexpected occurs. They also plan time in each day to give themselves a break even if it is just reading a great book for five minutes. They recognize the demands that will be put on them by others and create their schedules appropriately.

Stay Up-to-Date-Disorganized individuals often run behind because they do not stay up-to-date while organized individuals tend to update on a regular basis. This means that their stuff gets done. It also means that they keep their technology upgraded on a regular basis, which maximizes its efficiency.

Use Storage Systems-While disorganized people tend to throw everything in a big pile to deal with later, organized people keep everything in some sort of container. This helps them know exactly what they need to keep, and what they can get rid of because if it does not have a space for it. It then needs to go immediately.

“The only difference between a mob and a trained army is organization.” (Calvin Coolidge)[i]
