My List

“I’ve found that growing up can mean a lot of things. For me, it doesn’t mean I should become somebody completely new, and stop loving the things I used to love.  It means I’ve just added more things to my list.” (Taylor Swift)

Did you know that there is a difference between childish and childlike? “Being childish is when a grown up displays silly and immature behavior. Childlike refers to being simple and innocent.” [i] Let me use myself to illustrate the point.

When my wife gets angry at a behavior of mine that she perceives as childish, I have been told to stop acting like either a two year-old, a three year-old, a ten year-old, or a twelve year-old.  I jokingly thank her that I’m maturing with every age increase. I believe no matter how much I age that I will always have a childlike spirit about me. I tend to view life with curiosity, and always try to see understand the simple motive behind why something happens. I want to see the good in people by encouraging them to be their best.

1 Corinthians 13:11 (TPT) says: When I was a child, I spoke about childish matters, for I saw things like a child and reasoned like a child. But the day came when I matured, and I set aside my childish ways. There are times in life when you have to deal with adult matters like an adult. There’s no way that it can be escaped (as much as you might want to). What in your life right now do you need to stop avoiding (as you deal with it as your heavenly Father needs you to). He is there with you all the time.
