Stay awake and pray
for strength against temptation. Your spirit wants to do what is right, but
your body is weak. (Matthew 26:41, ERV)
For anyone who professes to
be Christian, chances are good that they are familiar with the acronym WWJD
(What Would Jesus Do). Technically, the acronym refers to the virtuous morals
Jesus lived by and not the way He lived his life (without today’s modern
conveniences). Few people today would wish to live without the modern
conveniences of electricity, hospitals, the automobile, refrigeration, air
conditioning, no rights for women, cell phones, and dressed in robes and
sandals just to name a few things items.
You would think the lifestyle of WWJD wouldn’t
be that difficult to live by. No matter
how good anyone is, sin comes naturally to us all thanks to Adam and Eve and
their fall from God’s concept of perfection in the Garden of Eden. As a broken
descendent of these two individuals, I find WWRD (What Would Robert Do) not the
optimal way to live my life in my world today.
WWRD is usually fueled by my
emotions, and not my logic. This means in a stressful situation my hateful,
vindictive mouth takes the reigns control (instead of my logic, which is run a
more divine source). My wrong speech hurts the feelings of others, loses
friends, and makes me alienated from others I care about. Definitely, someone needs fired and (of course)
someone else needs hired to have control of my life and mouth for good. You can guess where God needs to have control
with me.
There are so many things in
today’s world that are uncertain. It’s important to have a calm assurance that God
is bigger than us. He is in charge. Your
heavenly Father is going to make everything in your life workout just the way
it should (no matter what happens). John 14:27 (ERV) says: “I leave you
peace. It is my own peace I give you. I give you peace in a different way than
the world does. So don’t be troubled. Don’t be afraid.” You can be assured God is watching out for you. Remember that WWJD is always a better way to
live your life than WWRD. I speak from experience.
