My personality is the type that I tend to
thrive emotionally by placing myself in situations that are both uncomfortable
(and place me in “the hot seat”). If you
have ever been irritated with me, or wondered “why would you say that, Robert,”
it’s time to not read this post (or put up those walls emotionally).
According to the above quote, this fact has
been forgotten. My marriage has been full of challenges. It may be hard to
believe, but I am not always a basket of blessings just ask my wife. I believe
the state of a couple’s marriage is unique. Some marriages can be changed (with
lots of hard work) and others don’t survive (no matter what intervention is
tried).
I do know that if you are separated (because
of a bad marital situation) you are still legally married (even if the
emotional break happened years earlier). You are committing adultery. Proverbs
6:32 (TPT) says this about your character. (It makes no difference whether you
are male or female.)
“Don’t be so stupid as to think you can get
away with your adultery. It will destroy your life, and you’ll pay the price
for the rest of your days.” Grow up and have the
common decency to fix or conclude your marital union before you complicate the
situation with another romantic relationship. If the second union is meant to
be it can wait until it’s legal.
In case you are not aware, God
frowns on divorce. When it does happen, here is what Matthew 5:32 (TPT) says: “ However, I say to you, if anyone
divorces his wife for any reason, except for infidelity, he causes her to
commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” It’s good to realize God always provides many chances to better ourselves emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Lamentations 3:22-23 (ICB) says: “The Lord’s love never ends. His mercies never stop. They are new every morning. Lord, your loyalty is great. Doesn’t that provide you with hope?[i]
