Emptiness

“We were made for God, and until He is our greatest pleasure, all the other pleasures of this life will lead to emptiness.” (Kyle Idleman)

“Loving pleasure leads to poverty. Wine and luxury will never make you wealthy.(Proverbs 21:17, ERV)

God’s gifts for us often turn into God’s greatest competition (for our love).

1.   Too much entertainment can lead to boredom and emotional emptiness.

I said to myself, ‘I will try having fun. I will enjoy myself.’ But I found that this is also useless. It is foolish to laugh all the time. Having fun gets nothing done.(Ecclesiastes 2:1-2, ICB)

2.   Sex (outside of marriage) can lead to excitement at first, but conclude in meaninglessness.

“So run away from sexual sin. It involves the body in a way that no other sin does. So if you commit sexual sin, you are sinning against your own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18, ERV)

3.   Food is intended for nutritional purposes, and not to solve problems.

“So I tell you, don’t worry about the food you need to live. And don’t worry about the clothes you need for your body. Life is more important than food. And the body is more important than clothes.” (Matthew 6:25, ICB)

4.   God is what you need.

But earthly food spoils and ruins. So don’t work to get that kind of food. But work to get the food that stays good and gives you eternal life. The Son of Man will give you that food. He is the only one qualified by God the Father to give it to you.” (John 6:27, ERV)

“True children of God experience pleasure in giving.” (Sunday Adelaja)[i]
