Family and Love

“The most important thing in the world is family and love.” (John Wooden)

Dear World,

We need to stop lying, cheating, hurting, and hating each other. I fear no amount of progress can ever prevent the violence and hate we’ve filled ourselves with. Some say the world will end from an exploding star or a meteor. There is nothing big enough to destroy us the way we destroy ourselves. What are we doing? I don’t think enough of us understand the outcome of our actions.

It does not matter if you’re black, blue, white, red, gay, liberal, conservative, hate politics, a man, or a woman. No matter where your blood was born (whether it’s pure or blended). If we live in Africa or Antarctica, we all occupy the same planet. It has come to the point where I no longer want to watch the news or look at an article because all I see is hate. I fear we’ve dug ourselves into a hole far too large to climb out of. I feel hopeless and terrified about the future.
Find love in your heart. Stop arguing about whom is right, or complaining about whose lives matter more. Help each other. Support one another. It costs absolutely nothing to be kind. Bullets and words can kill us, but we’re also in control of how we use such forces. Let us stop screaming profanity and anger, and fill our vocabulary with words like “empathy,” “share" and “belonging.” We owe it to no one but ourselves. We have the power to choose to stop hate from spreading. Don’t get caught in its tangled web of lies. Instead, destroy the mistruths that hate has created because true love is still alive.

An Inhabitant of the Earth

“Technology has forever changed the world we live in. We're online, in one way or another, all day long. Our phones and computers have become reflections of our personalities, our interests, and our identities. They hold much that is important to us. “(James Comey)[i]
