Seven Billion

“Imagine what seven billion humans could accomplish if we all loved and respected each other. Imagine.”  (Anthony Douglas William)

The word unity means the condition of being one, with many parts, in a state of harmony .  This should describe ta church as a place of freedom, acceptance, faith, and  happiness .Unity is described as practical Christianity. Its emphasis is on spirituality rather than religion. Churches attract people of many denominations and traditions. God is moving in the hearts of His people no matter their denomination. The question is, are we going to take steps forward or move back in our spiritual walk?

Unity interprets the Bible and its lessons as they relate to spiritual and life experiences. It is our belief that God is too great to be contained in just one denominational philosophy. We believe that God is present in all of His creation. Unity proclaims the divinity of Jesus; but assures you that, like Jesus, you also are a child of God. Unity acknowledges Jesus as master teacher. Unity allows the freedom to grow spiritually at your own pace. Unity stresses individual responsibility for growth. It is a positive, affirmative approach to life.

Unity believes we are here on this planet to love and to serve one another in a spirit of equality and compassion. The Christ within is a perfect pattern of health and wholeness.. Unity emphasizes that the connection between you and God is direct. I believe one person can make a difference. Here are some simple steps that can promote unity in churches everywhere:

1.   Avoid gossip and assumptions When we don’t know the reason for something, we love to assume we have the answer based on what we’ve seen and heard. Here’s an idea: if you have a question, ask the person in question. You will never know the real story unless you go to the source.

2.   Contribute We are the body of Christ. If one part is not contributing their gifts, the entire church suffers. Find the area where you thrive and get involved. Not only will the church benefit, but you will as well.

3.   Don’t get upset over the small things in lifeI have known many who have left a church because they did not agree with every single detail of a pastor’s teaching. The truth is, if you keep this mindset, you will be continually disappointed. Your pastor is learning and growing just like you are. If your church is preaching biblical truth, you can afford to disagree on secondary issues.

4.   Pray for your church  Pray for its leaders. Pray for the members. Pray as Jesus did  that you will be one in unity and purpose. This is the most important but easily the most overlooked step we can take.

5.   Talk to someone you don’t know Some of my best friendships have been formed as a result of approaching someone new. Our first impressions of people are often far from true, and often what we perceive as being distant is a person simply waiting for us to make the first move.

"I don't believe God wants our church life to be centered on buildings and services. Instead, God wants our churches to be focused on active discipleship, mission, and the pursuit of unity." (Francis Chan and Preston Sprinkle)[i]
