Not everyone you associate with on a daily basis is classy, or has high standards of personal behavior. It is not about being conceited. Politeness and respect must be cultivated for everyone (this includes yourself). Reflect a genuine interest in others. Be authentic and confident in your life, dress stylishly and reflect elegance and grace in all you do.
In
my opinion, Luke 6:37-40 (MSG) is the absolute gold standard for quality,
classy people. “Don’t
pick on people; jump on their failures; criticize their faults; unless, of
course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that
hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give
away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given
back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting is the way. Generosity begets
generosity.”
With that being said, below are the qualities
classy people reflect:
1. Be open
to helpful criticism that improves you.
2. Be
polite, generous, compassionate and selfless to (and with) others.
3. Be
tranquil in the midst of tense situations.
4. Don’t
celebrate someone else’s failure.
5. Don’t
criticize people, but encourage them instead.
6. Don’t
gossip about others (or insult them).
7. If you
think you know-it-all, keep it to yourself.
8. Listen
more than you talk, and be modest always.
9. Quality
friendships make (or break) you personally.
10.
Recognize others that help you achieve success.
11.
Show self-responsibility in the decisions you make.
12.
Treat your failures as valuable as your victories.
(Both can teach you lessons.)
13.
Watch the language you use around others.
“Being classy is a culmination of being yourself, being positive, and doing good in all the places you can by all the means you can. Clothes, hair, music, film....none of these things a classy person [makes].” (Anonymous)[i]
