Our Deepest Fear

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us.” (Marianne Williamson)

If you are the parent of a teenager who finds their greatest fulfillment in creating music (or art), there is a summer camp in Zanesville, OH, that will transform their vision of whom they can become.

CEO, Founder, and Director of Creating Artists Stimulating Success (CASS) Performing Arts Camp, Dr. Cassandra McDonald, was inspired with a life-changing vision after attending Interlochen Arts Camp in northwest Michigan as a college student.

She wanted to create a camp for students to live out their creative dreams, and grow as an individual in a safe place where all were important.  Cassandra is also an expert in the world of creative arts.

“Here's to the crazy ones. [They are] the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... The [are the] ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them…
The only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... They push the human race forward…While some may see them as the crazy ones. We see genius…The ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world. Are the ones who do.” (Steve Jobs)

Her talents (and accomplishments) include international recording (and award- winning) vocal soloist, concert artist, captivating educator (for over twenty-five years), motivational speaker, composer, business owner, pianist, playwright, ordained pastor, and life coach.

CASS Camp tailors the camper’s week with a choice of five different tracks. They are choir, band/orchestra, music industry, art, or business leadership.

Faculty members hold graduate degrees, and are professionals in their respective fields.  Counselors are experienced in working with youth, and have the ability to assist campers in emotionally shining.  Campers return to school with confidence in reaching higher levels of academic achievement. They are motivated to continue creative pursuits in extracurricular activities.  Our students are leaders, and are open to success in their future.

Overnight camps offer a seven day experience with music (and art) coursework. Pipsqueak camp is for students in grades kindergarten through second. Day campers (third through sixth grades) follow a similar curriculum as overnight campers except campers are picked up daily at 4 pm. The intermediate program provides young musicians with the opportunity to work with renowned faculty in a fun and supportive environment.

“You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure about you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.” (Marianne Williamson)
As a mother of five children, Cassandra sees the value of every young person, and wants to assist them in becoming successful adults. ASD was a natural extension of the desire to help all children (even those with physical challenges).

ASD is a disorder that impairs a child's ability to communicate and interact with others. Restricted repetitive behaviors, interests and activities cause impairment in social, occupational, and other areas of functioning.

The number of children diagnosed with ASD is rising. It's unclear if this is due to better detection and reporting or an increase in the number of cases (or both). While there is no cure for ASD, intensive, early treatment can make a significant difference in the lives of children affected by it.

Cassandra began The Creating Artists Stimulating Success-Making Impact Negotiating Decisions (CASS-MIND) Academy, an Autism Learning Center, in Muskingum County with the needs of the ASD child in mind. The mission of this academy is to design individual curriculum based on assessment outcomes for each student.

CASS-MIND Academy conducts a year-round program initiative to Keep Kids in School (KKIS). It focuses on building character in youth (and combating juvenile delinquency) by providing an environment of positive peer interaction and adult coaching. It has been approved by the Ohio Department of Education. Various scholarship programs are available.

“If you don't love where you are right now, you won't love where you are going. Here is what I know. People who are passionate about what they do every day and love where they are in life are the fortunate ones.
They have discovered their purpose. They are the difference makers who fully understand the gift of adding value, and yes, they can't help but love where they are going on their journey.” (John C. Maxwell)
