Better Than the Rest

Whenever I’m in the mood for fast food, Wendy’s is usually my first choice. Their motto speaks volumes about the preparation of their wonderful menu (and how to live my life all the time).[i] “Quality is our recipe.” If you want to be known as a person of excellence (and integrity), please read below.

 A quality person…

1.  Treats others respectfully (with no exceptions).

Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.” Do I treat absolutely everyone fairly (even those individuals that push me to the brink of my sanity)? No.

“Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he’s thirsty, get him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness. Don’t let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good.”[ii] I am not always this generous.

2.  Trusts God to supply their needs (and not necessarily their wants).

Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have because He has said, “I will never leave you; I will always be by your side.”[iii] I love my stuff a lot.

3.  Is a hard, honest worker.

“Try to show God that you are a good worker. Do nothing you would be ashamed of. Tell the true message in the right way.”[iv] In my many work environments, a constant at times is how I allow my sense of justice to affect the quality job my Heavenly Father wants me to do.

4.  Cares for others as if they are an extension of his (her) body.

“You will do all right, if you obey the most important law in the Scriptures. It is the law that commands us to love others as much as we love ourselves.”[v]Let’s be real honest. There are people in my life I would prefer to remain enemies with. I will never like them (without some kind of divine intervention).

“Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.”[vi]  When it’s just me, do I cut corners? Do I do any task in the correct manner? Can both the Heavenly Father (and others) depend on my truthfulness (in every situation)? Remember," it is our choices that show who we really are, far more than our abilities.”  [vii]

[i] The title of this post is taken from the song of the same title by the group, Split Decision. Lyrics are below.

You’re a joke, man
You think your
better than the rest
And you know inside
That your all just like the rest

Your gonna face your time, man
Your through with being selfish now
And your times going to end
You can’t avoid it anymore (long awaited, long expected)

and now you're reminiscing
The days you started out
You think your getting somewhere
Your time will soon run out (better than the rest)

And you know, man
That we're breaking through this time
And we know inside
That we'll be there in due time
