The dictionary provides one definition of guilt as
“regretful realization of having done something wrong.” Matthew 12:7 (MSG) tells
all us what how guilt can root itself in our hearts. “…a flexible heart [opposed]
to an inflexible ritual…”
I believe self-improvement is a wonderful thing we all
should strive for in our lives. Self-hatred and guilt (over someone’s opinion
of you) are lies from the Father of Lies (Satan). Your Heavenly Father wants
you to appreciate all the wonderful things that He gave you as His unique
creation.
In my life I’ve discovered that excessive guilt weighs me
down emotionally, and causes me not to accomplish all that I was intended to
do. I believe writing the blog you are now reading was something God has always
wanted me to do. I find purpose in it.
If my posts become guilt trips instead of a being an
intended route to encouragement, will you please let me know at robert3chis@gmail.com.
For emotional stability, we all eventually need to come to terms with who we
are (and our material goods) as given in Philippians 4:11 (ISV).
“I am not saying this because I am in any need, for I have learned to be content in whatever situation I am in.”
If some well-meaning person (even me) has convictions
that place you in emotional bondage, need I tell you who that comes from? That
deception comes from the Father of Lies (Satan), and not your loving Heavenly
Father, who only wants the best for you.
This is unless you have done something wrong (per your
God conscience) that you should feel remorse about. In this case, obey the
voice of your Heavenly Father, and make the situation right.
The Bible is a solid resource to use when coming to
terms with your faith system. (2 Timothy 2:15). When you know what you believe
other well-meaning individuals will be unable to pile the guilt on you if you
just say “no more.”
When
you are standing firmly in your unique beliefs about the Creator of the
universe (that you have developed through your own scriptural research), you’ll
find that you may agree with the chorus of Gloria
Estefan’s
song “Coming Out of the
Dark” (and God has been waiting patiently for your return to him):
Coming out of the dark, I finally see the light
now
It's shining on me
Coming out of the dark I know the love that saved me
You're sharing with me
It's shining on me
Coming out of the dark I know the love that saved me
You're sharing with me
Like some human beings,
the Almighty will not embarrass you the first time you get it wrong. He is slow
to anger and abundant in all the mercy you need. (Psalms 103:8, Isaiah 50:7,
54:7) Your Heavenly Father will honor all the effort that you have put into
becoming one of His most honest, truthful ambassadors.
He has orchestrated
every detail in your life (including your challenge of faith) to become
something valuable (and precious) in everything we do. (Romans 8:28)
