Christian
thriller novels Piercing the Darkness and
its sequel, This Present Darkness, (by
religious author Frank Peretti) lead the reader to believe in the presence of
angels in realms invisible human eyesight.
The
words of the Satan to Jesus during His forty day testing in the wilderness lead
us to believe in the possibility of guardian angels today. In part, Luke 4:10
(MSG) says, “He has placed You in the care
of the angels to protect you…” Verses like Jude 1:9 and Revelations 12:1 might
also lead us to come to the same conclusion, but what do you think about this?
I
enjoy TV shows that take me out of my comfort zone on a familiar topic so
I can see things in a different way. In my
mind, I’ve always pictured the above as demure, winged, angelic beings that calmly
(and wisely) rush around making sure their chosen human charges are safe.
One
of my weekly guilty pleasures is CBS’s Angel
from Hell (Thursdays at 9:30pm). It completely altered my views on guardian
angels. Wildly inappropriate Guardian Angel Amy (played by Jane Lynch) watches
over her charge, Allison (played by Maggie Lawson) in any unconventional means
possible. Guardian Angel Amy’s absurd advise (and wisdom) often turn out to be
exactly what Allison needed at that time.
Realistically,
I picture a whole host of Guardian Angels in charge of my safety that are frazzled
and exhausted (if that’s possible for perfect beings) and frantically busy
trying to keep me of danger (unknown to me) or trouble (I’m aware of) on a day-by-day basis.
Hebrews
13:2 (MSG) calmly states “Be ready with a
meal or a bed when it’s needed. Why some have extended hospitality to angels
without ever knowing it!” You never
know who the identity of someone in your past might be, or a stranger in your
present existence might turn out to be. This is a thought from your favorite
blogger (right?) that wishes you to think of limitless possibilities in your
life.
