Powerless?

A good family friend, “Denton,” that lives in Cincinnati, OH, has a problem with the local church he attends (“Missionary House of Worship”). The house or worship he attends with other like-minded believers may be embroiled in a church split in the near future over church policy of two groups of warring followers of Christ inside the church.

Denton is a computer analyst in his late thirties. All three of us bonded together at a national conference in Cincinnati on the Chihuahua breed of canine. (Denton owns an adorable cinnamon-colored female Chihuahua named, “Pumpkin Pie.”)

Bobbi and I have requested that Denton not give us the specific facts about this situation (as we are friends with the pastor). Our wish is to remain neutral. We want our advice to be helpful so that Denton can make the best decision for himself.

In the above situation, there is something powerful Bobbi and I can do. In no way are we at all helpless in the above situation (in aiding our good buddy). I bet you know what that is. Prayer is something we can all do continuously anytime of the day, and the Almighty considers it of extreme importance from a person striving to be more like Jesus (I Thessalonians 5:17, Colossians 1:9, James 5:16).

Prayer is an amazing function (action) anyone can do. Here are some interesting scriptural facts about it.

1.  Prayer helps us have a clear conscience with our Heavenly Father (Hebrews 13:18).

2.  Prayer keeps us out of the way of temptation (Matthew 26:41).

3.  Prayer changes our mindset about our enemies to someone that needs our help (Matthew 5:44).

4.  Prayer will give you more love for others, and more insight into their needs (Philippians 1:9).

5.  Prayer is useful for whatever mood (or health status) you are currently in (James 5:13).

It might be a real downer for you to know that above person and their story never happened. Bobbi and I are going through a situation with someone we love dearly. It’s important for us to be as “cunning as snakes and as harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16)

This post is to remind both Bobbi and me that the one thing we can do for our good friend is to intercede with the Almighty to supply our friend’s needs (and give them wisdom in making the right decision).
