Have
you ever met someone (or are you this person) that likes to toot their own horn
(or is constantly pointing out to others how wonderful they are)? Is a picture
materializing in your brain?
Who
is this person? Is their behavior a bit nauseating (or abrasive)? Proverbs 27:2
(MSG) wisely states, “Don’t call
attention to yourself; let others do that for you.”
If
there is something about your appearance (or personality) that you desire
attention for, that speaks of insecurity (or immaturity) inside yourself. Why
not find a counselor to help you figure out why you’re not emotionally strong enough
to be just who God made you. Think about this. Could you exist without any kind
of complement for the rest of your life?
It’s
extremely gratifying to do an anonymous good deed, and know someone will only
be able to focus on the blessing (and not the giver). It’s even better when it
happens to you. Throughout our marriage God has blessed us with unasked-for financial
gifts when it was needed most through scenarios like an anonymous
philanthropist (at Christmastime) or the overpayment of a bill (months or years
prior).
Whether
praise ever comes to you, do your best for God and others (Colossians 3:23).
Let the knowledge of doing your best, be your ultimate reward. Nothing can
match the feeling of love (or pride) when someone gives you with a sincere
complement from their heart. (It makes no difference if it’s a child, adult, or
an animal.) It’s worth waiting for. You can trust me on this.
