How
would you complete the following open-ended sentence? Happiness is __________.
The number of answers could be limitless. Here are some of my favorites: food,
exercise, family/friends, marriage, grandchildren, holidays, hobbies, blogging,
religion, a relationship with Jesus, an iphone, pets (dogs, cats, etc.).
Whatever
answer you used to complete the sentence above says a lot about you as a person.
The American Heritage Dictionary (College
Edition) defines happiness as “having or demonstrating pleasure or
satisfaction; gratified.”
With
the above definition in place, one question must be asked. What in life will
satisfy you (or already has)? Before you answer, consider your response
carefully. If you choose an object or event, what happens when the item is
broken (or lost) and the event has passed? With a person, what happens the
first time they let you down?
Life
is not perfect (all the time). Only you can determine lasting happiness with
what you fill your life with. Be true to the real person deep down inside you.
This is the only way true happiness will ever work out for you. I know you have
the strength to make all the needed changes in your life. I have confidence in
your abilities. Happiness is not an elusive thing after all. It’s within your
grasp all you have to do is reach out and grab it.
