Accused

I stand accused
There's a list a mile long
Of all my sins
Of everything that I've done wrong
I'm so ashamed
There's nowhere left for me to hide
This is the day
I must answer for my life

My fate is in the Judge's hands
But then He turns to me and says

I know you
I love you
I gave My life to save you
Love paid the price for mercy
My verdict not guilty

How can it be?
I can't begin to comprehend
What kind of grace
Would take the place of all my sin?

I stand in awe
Now that I have been set free
And the tears well up as I look at that cross
'Cause it should have been me

My fate was in the nail scarred hands
He stretched them out for me and said

[Chorus]

I'm falling on my knees to thank You
With everything I am I'll praise You
So grateful for the words I heard You say

[Chorus]

Anytime I hear Mandisa’s soothing voice sing her song, “Not Guilty” I eventually feel a complete sense of relief and gratitude to my heavenly Father. The beginning of the song makes me want to cry though. Romans 3:22-24 (TLB) says: But now God has shown us a different way to heaven—not by “being good enough” and trying to keep his laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Scriptures told about it long ago). Now God says he will accept and acquit us—declare us “not guilty”—if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.  Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious ideal; yet now God declares us “not guilty” of offending him if we trust in Jesus Christ, who in his kindness freely takes away our sins.”

I don’t know about you, but there have been plenty of times in my life when I knew the right thing to do, and purposely chose not to do it. God should have chosen to rein down His anger on me, but instead His overwhelming grace. I greatly appreciate that. Now what about you? Has God been better to you throughout your life than you deserved. How many times has He kept you from painful, dangerous things that could have happened to you in the right sequence?

His God Winks (or His unexpected planned blessings) are all around you. They can be great or small in size if you will only look and recognize them. Your heavenly Father always knows what’s best for you because He sees the complete story of your life. Right now, you may be seeing the underside of your life’s tapestry (ugly). God sees the beauty of the front, and He knows how it needs to go so you become the master piece He always knew you were.
