Bigger

"TV is bigger than any story it reports. It's the greatest teaching tool since the printing press.”  (Fred Friendl)

Like many Americans, television (TV) is a big obsession of mine. I’m of the opinion that none of us can be mentally turned on all the time. For our mental health, we need down time. A couple of hours of quality television (TV) can do that. Could I have been doing more productive things rather than submissively watching TV? Maybe, that’s true. I hear things from a show or commercial that inspires a blog post or a great discussion.
Maybe it’s all about the intention we bring to whatever we do (including TV). If we’re using TV to dull the anxiety or put off dealing with stuff, then it can be harmful. How TV stimulate you mentally? Here are just a few thoughts about creativity and productivity that may help you to look at television a bit differently:

1.     TV broadcasts the news and weather stations to keep you informed on the current events.

2.     TV can provide a new perspective on important topics.

3.     TV drama shows require good memory to remember the weekly plot.

4.     TV gives people with little in common many different things to talk about.

5.     TV is good at instructing the viewer on how to do things like cook, build, educate, or create.

6.     TV makes exercising easier by allowing the ease of exercising in your their own home.

7.     TV makes for great family bonding by allowing a family to share a great time together.

8.     TV makes great entertainment with the variety of reality TV shows.

9.     TV programming brings in diverse cultures into your home with the different channels.

“Television isn't inherently good or bad. You go to a bookstore, there are how many thousands of books, but how many of those do you want - five? Television's the same way. If you're going to show people stuff, television is the way to go. Words and pictures show things.” (Bill Nye) [i]
