Yourself

“I believe that as much as you take, you have to give back. It's important not to focus on yourself too much.” (Nicole Kidman)

Jesus continued to say to all of them, “Any of you who want to be my follower must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you every day for following me. (Luke 9:23, ERV)

How do you slay the god of me?

1.   Admit that you are not self-made.

God has given me a special gift and that is why I have something to say to each one of you. Don’t think that you are better than you really are. You must see yourself just as you are. Decide what you are by the faith God has given each of us. (Romans 12:3, ERV)

2.   Recognize your mortality.

The reality is you have no idea where your life will take you tomorrow. You are like a mist that appears one moment and then vanishes [away].  (James 4:14, VOICE)

3.   Spend time with God.

I keep your word close in my heart so that I won’t sin against you. (Psalm 119:11, CEB)

4.   Make promoting God your primary purpose in life.

He must become more important, while I become less important. (John 3:30 CJB)

“Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them.” (Dalai Lama XIV)[i]
