The
“click-and-collect” service has been popular with Asda Stores Limited in the United Kingdom
(since May of 2015). It has started taking off in the United States in stores
like Kroger’s, Wal-Mart, Harris Teeter, and Amazon.
Kroger’s first online shopping
service was launched in 2016 in Liberty Township (Trumball and Butler counties
in Ohio). The location (at 7300 Yankee Road) was the first of Kroger’s 2,640
supermarkets to test online ordering.
Many people dread the amount of time
it takes to do grocery store every week. Embrace the idea of grocery shopping
in the comfort of your own home (on any internet connection available). There
are over 40,000 items available in-store on Kroger.com/ClickList, and more new
items are being added every week.
“…We are preparing to roll out online shopping to additional
stores, and are actively seeking customer feedback so that we can perfect the
process and customer experience.”[ii] Kroger Spokeswoman, Jennifer Lien
Here are some points of interest
with this new service (by Kroger’s).
This service eliminates grocery
impulse buying, which saves money in the long run. It’s impossible to purchase
more than ordered (unless one enters the store to do that).[iii]
The Kroger.com/ClickList tallies up your grocery total for you as you go along
so you can stay on budget.
This online shopping tool allows one
to write notes about each of the items ordered that need special instructions
(like the ripeness of avocadoes or bananas). [iv]One
can even order their favorites (the items bought most often) so online grocery shopping
can be even easier. Comparing
prices can be done easily (and efficiently). [v]
Often times food items normally out of stock
on a busy day may be available by the time your order is prepared. Before
getting on the website, make a shopping list (as if a physical trip inside the grocery
store was going to happen). This is a great way to focus on doing this task
electronically[vi]
Stores have pick-up
times during the week of 7 a.m. to 9
p.m. E.S.T. You will find
convenient parking spaces close to the store (labeled specifically for
ClickList [vii]customer
parking). A sign (in most cases) will direct you to those spaces.
In front of each parking space is a sign with the phone number to call an
e-Commerce
Customer Attendant that you are there to pick up your order. This person will
walk up to your car (in a matter of minutes), and make their personal introduction.[viii]
The same e-Commerce Customer Attendant who
brought your groceries out will adjust the money on the order with any coupons present.
[ix]Please note that the e-Commerce
Customer Attendant is unable to ask for your coupons (so don’t forget to
mention this if it applies). They will verify any product substitution made; swipe card payment using their electronic
tablet, and then provide the customer with a receipt for the order. [x]
This is done before loading any
groceries curbside into your car.[xi] The whole process usually
takes less than ten minutes.[xii] Normally, a shopping trip could take an hour (or more) of your precious
time.

service, and I'm never buying food the old way again.” (Hayley Peterson)
ü "I jumped on the bandwagon, and
tried it. And they are right. It is a game-changer." (One
Health Blogger)
ü "Dear Kroger ClickList... You have
changed my life. I don't know if I'll ever go in a grocery store again. Ok
maybe that's exaggerating. With twins and twenty degree weather, having
groceries brought to my car was awesome." (Audra

[vi] After you place your order, an e-Commerce Selector is responsible for
choosing a customer’s requested on-line order in the most efficient manner
possible. Attention to care, freshness and quality are a priority.
Perishable items (like meat and produce) are selected shortly before
your order is scheduled for pickup. Items needing refrigeration (or a freezer) will
be placed there (staging) until entire order is put together with ambient items
(non-refrigerated and fresh) at your arrival.
[vii] ClickList is an online grocery ordering service from Kroger. Now you
can shop online, and pick up your order at the store without having to leave
your car.
[viii] At this time, prescriptions (and clothing where applicable) cannot
be added to ClickList orders. However, we are working to add this capability in
the future.
[ix] Digital coupons loaded to your shopper’s e-card (Kroger’s Plus Card)
will automatically be applied to your order at pickup, and discounted from your
total. Paper coupons can’t be used in the mobile checkout process. While
Kroger is happy to accept paper coupons, please note that it will increase your
checkout time. We encourage customers to use digital coupons whenever possible
to ensure that your ClickList pickup experience is as quick as possible.
[x] Credit (or debit cards) is the only acceptable form of payment. Cash,
check, gift cards, and food stamps (like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program, SNAP, or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants
and Children, WIP) are unauthorized. You can also use your Kroger Plus Card (if you wish). There is no tipping necessary for ClickList.
Your ClickList Associates will not accept tips.
[xi] Your order will be carefully checked to order to ensure that all
items are included. If questions exist about an order once the items are later
unpacked, please contact us at 1-800-576-4377, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to
Midnight E.S.T., and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00am to 9:30pm E.S.T.
[xii] If you like to pick out your own produce, or if you realize you forgot
something on your list, you can make a quick trip into the store to grab those
items since you are already on site to pick up your online order.
Personally, I would avoid doing the above for items
forgotten (unless they are absolutely necessary). Big store chains (like my wonderful employer) study what to
place where to get you to impulse buy more.
This above advice is from
your advice blogger (and not my employer who wishes you would buy more into
debt for their benefit). Here is some scriptural advice against impulse buying
to shield you. Read it, and live it.
“The wise [person] saves for the future, but the foolish [one] spends whatever [they get].” Proverbs
21:20 (TLB) If
a spiritual hoarder’s show were made (with your life under inspection), what
would be seen? Would the lives of others be shown as positively changed because
of you (or damaged in spite of you)?
“Indulging in luxuries, wine, and rich food will never
make you wealthy.” Proverbs 21:17 (GNT) It
is possible to have it all, and be bankrupt emotionally. Is this you?
“Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by
moths and corroded by rust (or worse) stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in
Heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t
it? The place where your treasure is; [there] is the
place you will most want to be (and end up being).” Matthew 6:19-21 (MSG)
Let me ask the tough question that must be asked (even
if this offends you): “Do you really need retail therapy right now (or God)?”
Guess which one will really satisfy you with what really matters. I hope you
come up with the one right answer. Yes, I am preaching to myself (and you)
right now so get with your Heavenly Father’s plan. Can you handle that?
“God has given each person a gift. That gift is
something he can do. Each one should use his gift to help the others. In that
way you all make good use of the many blessings God has given you.” 1 Peter 4:10 (New Testament)
(WE) Sometimes, without a positive cash flow it can be difficult to minister to
others (as you might like).
