Her Profession

Even Rahab the prostitute was made right with God by hiding the spies and aiding in their escape. (James 2:25, VOICE)

Joshua saved Rahab (the prostitute) her family, and all those who were with her. Joshua let them live because Rahab helped the spies Joshua had sent out to Jericho. Rahab still lives among the Israelites today. (Joshua 6:25, ERV)

This is the family history of Jesus the Messiah… Salmon was the father of Boaz. His mother was Rahab... (Matthew 1:1, 5, ERV)

When someone mentions the name “Rahab” to me, the following comes to mind: A prostitute in the Old Testament from the city of Jericho, who hid (and saved) two Jewish spies that later saved the lives of her and her family from being annulated. Everyone worldwide will always associate Rahab with her profession as long as people consider her. She can never rid herself of this identity.

The Bible doesn’t tell us much about Rahab’s life, but we do know that she finished well in the genealogy of Jesus Christ, and you can’t do much better than that. Like Rahab, we are all flawed works in progress. God is more concerned with trying to progress towards His likeness than arriving at perfection (which won’t happen for any of us until we arrive in Heaven).

I know it is possible for us all to serve God in our own unique ways. You may be the only version of Jesus some will ever experience. (That could be both an honor and scary.) So do your best to be real and dedicated to your heavenly Father. Who you are and what you do could make the difference between spiritual life and death. It’s an important job God needs you for.
