The Language

“Jesus was God spelling Himself out in language that humanity could understand.” (S. D Gordon)

The Word became a man and lived among us. We saw His glory—the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father. The Word was full of grace and truth.  (John 1:14, ICB)

1.   The humanity of Jesus is what makes salvation possible

He gave up His place with God and made himself nothing.  He was born as a man   and became like a servant. And when he was living as a man, He humbled himself and was fully obedient to God.  He obeyed even when that caused His death—death on a cross. (Philippians 2:7-8, ICB)

2.     The humanity of Jesus also makes God more accessible.

He was hated and rejected by people. He had much pain and suffering. People would not even look at him. He was hated, and we didn’t even notice him (Isaiah 53:3, ICB)

3.   The humanity of Jesus allows us to approach God’s throne of grace with confidence.

15 For our high priest is able to understand our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but He did not sin. 16 Let us, then, feel free to come before God’s throne. Here there is grace. And we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it. (Hebrews 4:15-16, ICB)

“Jesus did not come to change the mind of God about humanity; Jesus came to change the mind of humanity about God.” (Richard Rohr) [i]
