Regardless

A true friend loves regardless of the situation,   and a real [friend] other exists to share the tough times. (Proverbs 17:17, VOICE)

Close friends come in all shapes, sizes, and life situations.  Two very popular TV series brought this point home.  From 1985 to 1992, The Golden Girls and Gilmore Girls (from 2000-2007, 2016) became our extended friendship family as all these characters became as familiar to us as our own family members.  (Of course, this is assuming you were watching popular TV series like this during these time periods.)
The theme songs (in their extended versions) from both shows (The Golden Girls' "Thank You for Being a Friend" by Andrew Gold and Gilmore Girls' Where You Lead I Will Follow “by Carole King and Louise Goffin) speak of friendship that has weathered the test of time in its closeness. Who do you know that fits the description of both these songs, or do you want someone like this in your life? How (and when) can this become a reality for you?

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
Your heart is true you're a pal and a confidant

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see, the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say,
Thank you for being a friend

Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

If it's a car you lack
I'd surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need, anytime of the day or night

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear, even though it's hard to hear
I will stand real close and say,
Thank you for being a friend

Chorus

Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Let me tell you bout a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

And when we die and float away
Into the night, the Milky Way
You'll hear me call, as we ascend
I'll see you there, then once again
Thank you for being a friend

Chorus

______________________

Loving you the way I do
I only wanna be with you
And I will go
To the ends of the earth,
Cause darling, to me that’s what you're worth

Chorus

Where you lead
I will follow
Anywhere that you tell me to
If you need, if you need me to be with you
I will follow
Where you lead

If you're out on the road
Feelin' lonely and so cold
All you have to do is call my name
And I'll be there
On the next train

Chorus

I always wanted a real home
With flowers on the windowsill
But if you wanna live in New York City
Honey, you know I will

I never thought I could get satisfaction
From just one man
But if anyone can keep me happy
You're the one who can

Chorus (2x)
