Imagination

“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.” (Brad Henry)

12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and sat down again. Jesus asked, “Do you understand what I have just done for you? 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord.’ And this is right, because that is what I am. 14 I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet. So you also should wash each other’s feet.  (John 13:12-14, ICB)

·        Jesus was the greatest teacher ever, He taught about the kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus called a little child to him. He stood the child before the followers. Then he said, “I tell you the truth. You must change and become like little children. If you don’t do this, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like this child. (Matthew 18:2-4, ICB)

·        Jesus taught with the authority of God.

21 Jesus and his followers went to Capernaum. On the Sabbath day Jesus went to the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people there were amazed at his teaching. He did not teach like their teachers of the law. He taught like a person who had authority. (Mark 1:21-22, ICB)

·        Jesus taught that what we are on the inside is what’s important.

21 “You have heard that it was said to our people long ago, ‘You must not murder anyone.  Anyone who murders another will be judged.’ 22 But I tell you, if you are angry with your brother, you will be judged. And if you say bad things to your brother, you will be judged by the Jewish council. And if you call your brother a fool, then you will be in danger of the fire of hell. 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemies.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you.  (Matthew 5:21-22, 43-44, ICB)

·        Jesus practiced what He preached perfectly.

17 “Don’t think that I have come to destroy the law of Moses or the teaching of the prophets. I have not come to destroy their teachings but to do what they said. (Matthew 5:17, ICB)

“If Jesus is the Son of God, his teachings are more than just good ideas from a wise teacher; they are divine insights on which I can confidently build my life.” (Lee Strobel)[i]
